Aleks Kolarov

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Aleks Kolarov

Postby Duckman » Wed Jan 19, 2011 11:34 am

After lengthy injury, we all can see how he is getting better, game by game, and more adapted to PL style of play.
His heading is getting better, he scored a goal...maybe he could work on defending dribbles (Hunt destroyed him a few times against Wolves, and some other mediocre players earlier).
Just waiting to see his crosses connect with Džeko.

Your thoughts?

I've been saying all along he's fine, some will need the goal to be convinced though.

I think he's going to be a big player for us.

Have to mention those couple of great blocks in the last few games, certain goals, almost.

He seems a bit too one footed to me. Why oh why can't all modern players be equally adept on both feet?

Great to see him break the duck with a goal. I'm sure it'll be the first of many piledrivers.

If he had pace he'd be immense, gets in some fantastic positions but no one puts him through as he is slower than paddy... Cant see him making it, got ripped by a championship nobody.

Hope i'm wrong.

He just seems a bit slow for me. Struggled against quick players this season. Still question marks over his head for me but he has been improving and obviously takes time to adjust.

I think his head is fine.

He'll get better no doubt. There was a reason Mourinho battled hard to get him. Like Silva and quite a few others, it takes time to get settled.

I dont get why people think he's slow, he wont win any 100 metres records but he's far from being slow.

Aleks is a quality player. It wasn't just his goal, he played a lovely ball to Tevez which led to the penalty incident. People complain about him being out of position but Mancini wants him pushing up all the time so other players eg Barry and Kompany are expected to fill for him. That's their job.

Last season we had Bridge now we've got Aleks. No contest.

Absolutely shocking defesively imo. I'm sure he can learn as he's not afraid to physically challenge & block a ball; he's showed that with some good last ditch efforts recently, but in open play absolutely fucking awful & a complete liability who is pulling the whole back 4 out of shape. He's also got the 'sprint forwards jog back' mentality that plagued Micah a couple of sesons ago. Doesn't look fully fit to me. Hope he doesn't play in any big away games. Disaster waiting to happen.

I'm with Ted on this. And I kind of knew it having seen him in Italy. Although with game much slower he didn't get exposed so badly. He has improved somewhat and he has all the physical tools needed but at this time not quite ready yet from tactical point of view. He drifts all over the place and like Ted says, pulls the whole back three out of shape.

I'm not hater by the way. I think he has the tools. But work is still needed there.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I personally wouldn't be this harsh about him, but not far off!! I'm not impressed from what i've seen up to now but the experts rave about him so i will expect vast improvement as time goes on but seems a bit of a liability as he is. Hope the goal kicks his form in.

God the boo boys are out in force for poor old old Aleks I see. Totally unfair. Absolute shite is he? Just take a look at Bridge last weeekend to see what absolute shite looks like. If he pushes forward Barry is supposed to cover; there's no reason why that should disturb the balance of the defence at all. Mancini wants his players able to cope with that sort of flexibility. If he was unhappy with the degree to which Aleks was pushing forward he'd be stopping him doing so.

In my view our real weakness in defence is at centre back where Lescott is a weak first replacement in that position and Kolo who isn't great in the air.

Not unfair at all, and we aren't boo boys. We can just see that he isn't up to speed defensively and needs to learn how to keep shape which he will improve upon with our coaching staff over the next six months.

It's also correctly noted that he loves to get forward (and is often found in the left wing position) but doesn't try too hard to get back to HIS left back position letting Barry or De Jong cover for him.

Did you see Kolarov make a successful challenge against his opponent in any of the games he's played recently?

I've had that much confidence in him, he's been in my Sun DreamTeam all season.
