Players whose names don't sound like footballers

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Players whose names don't sound like footballers

Postby BlueinBosnia » Wed Jan 19, 2011 5:23 pm

I was thinking about this when I heard Reece Wabara's name the other day- it sounds more like a Rugby League player's name.

Guy Whittingham was one that always struck me as odd- sounded like someone from the Bullingdon Club, or a history teacher at a public school.

Any others?

The Norwich team of the late 80s and early 90s had a few names that sounded more like Dickensian characters than footballers - Butterworth, Culverhouse, Ullathorne.

I just wanted to mention a random Lopez Ufarte so I can snigger quietly to myself.

John Mikel Obi always struck me as either an African despot or the head of the UN. Plus is it Obi Mikel or Mikel Obi? WTF. Sort it.

John Michael Nchekwube Obinna <--- his given name
Mikel John Obi <--- what he's allegedly referred to commonly like sitting around the house by his mates or his mother
John Mikel Obi/John Obi Mikel <--- what the average punter seems to call him

Don't ever get me started about what the fucl is printed on the back of his shirt cuz iirc it's even different....

Run a charity or get a weapons stash Johnny boy...sort it!

cheers
