Seeing united thrash a very ordinary Birmingham side 5-0, Arsenal winning 3-0.
Looking at the table were now in 3rd, miles behind on goal difference.
Chelsea on tomoz, looking like it all starts from now on in.
Need a good result now.
C'mon city.

and the footballing gods cry
'Typical City'
New striker signs just before we play them and scores the winner for a team that can't buy a win
It's preordained

There was more pressure on us at the start of the season than there is now. No need to panic, we may very well be fighting for 4th come the end of the season, but right now, which team out of us, chelsea and spuds would you most like to be?
We will be fine, but the next game cant come fast enough imo.

The target for the season was to make it to Champion's League. As far as I can see we are still very much on course.

We now wait to see what the reaction to this will be. I think everyone is aware that the attack was out of sorts yesterday, there was no spark. That can happen but i rekon unlikely to happen that often.
A while back I was thinking that City could aim for about 80pts.. and see where that got us. A few weeks ago that translated into only allowing 2 losses and about 4 draws from the games left. Since then we have lost once, yesterday, and drew once v Arsenal.
Villa was a major fail which means that we need to make amends by winning a game we would be less expected to. Staying with the same target of 80pts we now can only drop 7 pts in the 14 games left. 1 loss and 4 draws. It was a massive challenge before the Villa game and it still is, but if this team rekon on being title challengers in spirit then it is round abouts what they have to do.
It is safe to say that from here on in we will learn a lot about the character of this squad. As the general gelling question is now over, there are no real excuses anymore.

When we lost to Everton we won the next three, I'd fancy us to kick on again. I was frustrated by yesterday's performance but didn't think we did that much wrong, it was different to the Birmingham game in that respect.

I'd say that the reaction has to be more than 3 wins ( taking aside the derby ). We dont have any excuses anymore, not really anyways.. ok allowing Dzeko to get used to things and still perhaps bedding in Boateng and Kolarov (but neither of those are really any worse than who would be there) So now we are a team so to speak we have to learn from this and not just have a reaction of must try harder for a couple of games and then potentially forget this again. We have done this too many times imo not to know about it. Stoke, Everton, now Villa. If we get stuck in we can beat anyone.. so we have to do that every game whoever we are playing. So im looking for a reaction that means we start games with energy and intent from now to the end of the season.

A few weeks ago, we found we had a problem with teams coming to CoMS and massing defences. That in itself was a sign of our progress and how other coaches gave us their respect.
Who would have thought that such a short time later that a team like Villa would feel it necessary to mass their defence at home? That is a sure sign of our progress.
It may give us a few problems for a short time but we'll get through it and be a better team because of it. It's somethingwe'll need to experience and overcome. Just another phase in our moving forward.

After calming down since saturday, I have to agree with John. It's a learning curve and we need to learn ways to get past that 10 man wall. It will happen more and more in the future. Once we get that spot on, there will be no stopping us.
