I will qualify that a bit and say what pace we do have.. look to get it in action as soon as we pick the ball up.

Usain Bolt would be the best footballer in the world, if only he would give it a go.

No one is saying that, but we do miss pace.
Sometimes when chasing a game it would be good to have pacey players who you could knock the ball too.
Look at SWP and Petrov and Bellamy in their prime, they beat players on pace. They were so quick they didn't need to be that skillful. It also meant under pressure you could knock it to the wings.

We need to invest in some young, pacey wingers.

I agree with the sentiments in general but there was nowhere for pace to run into today, too many Villa players back so deep. Guile, shooting & crossing were the order of the day imo.

I recon Peter Beagrie would have been more of an asset than Craig in that game.

Certainly was out wide, shame we play all our football in the middle of the park. But yes, we missed a pacy winger who can get in behind the defence and Villa just mullered us when we tried our laboured attempts at it.

I think what we miss the most is 1st half urgency. We never set out to kill teams straight away.
Tracking back is overrated.

I go with the guile rather than simple out and out pace.
I also go with playing wide men out wide, thus stretching opposing defences. By playing down the middle and keeping it narrow, we play to the strengths of a packed defence.

I also think that some of our passing game is merely performed to keep possession and is done far too slowly. If we want to succeed in a passing game, it has to be done with speed in order to pull/push/move defences around and pull them out of position.
Recently, we seem to have had loads of possession in areas that are not a threat to opponents.

Pace is a very potent weapon, even the headless-chicken Aaron Lennon type. Finding a player who is a) quick and b) has other weapons in his armoury like skill, a range of passing and vision, now that's the key to improving our forward line. Not many about, I fear, but if there is one, we will find him and at least we will be in the hunt for him.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

Barcelona and the rags do well without any real pace in their side.

There is enough pace in our side already.

It'll show through in time, once Edin adapts and the link up between him, carlos and silva evolves there will be no complaints.

Personally i'd rather have players who can play rather than players who only know how to run fast.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having a winger with blinding speed, touch and smarts--where to find such a player; any ideas???

And don't say Bellars or I will puke. We already got about thirty threads on THAT subject.
