Sky Sports Presenters Andy Gray and Richard Keys In Female Assistant Referee Sexist Gaffe

ImageImage

Sky Sports presenters Andy Gray and Richard Keys are at the centre of a sexism row after they questioned whether a female assistant referee knew the offside rule during a Premier League match.

The commentators, who apparently believed their microphones were switched off, were recorded making disparaging remarks about Sian Massey, 25, before Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday.

They also criticised Apprentice star and West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady, who had written about sexism in a newspaper column on Saturday.

Commenting on Ms Massey, Mr Keys said: ‘Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her.’

Mr Gray, a former Scotland striker, replied: ‘Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don’t know the offside rule.’

Mr Keys replied: ‘Course they don’t. I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny (Liverpool manager Dalglish) will go potty. This isn’t the first time, is it? Didn’t we have one before?’

Later in the exchange, Mr Keys said: ‘The game’s gone mad. Did you hear charming Karren Brady this morning complaining about sexism? Do me a favour, love.’
(Daily Mail)

Why are we not surprised? This pair of archaic football presenters are well known for their rather backward views but what makes this incident all the more amusing is the fact that Sian Massey actually got the decision spot on.

In fact when I watched the incident first time around I also thought that Raul Meireles was offside, this was before I even noted that the linesman was in fact a woman. When I noted that it was a correct decision I remember thinking ‘Well done linesman’, it was only after that was the camera drawn to Sian Massey to reveal that it was a woman who had made the call.

What the comments from, he with the incredibly hair arms and he with the ability to talk complete rubbish ad infinitum, actually prove, along with their obvious bigotry, is that they themselves do not understand the offside law.

Irony was that she made a brilliant call on Liverpool's first goal, it looked offside but it was a great spot to see the Wolve's right back playing them on. Don't expect much else from Keys and Gray though tbf.

Keys is a twit who is stealing a wage for what he actually provides in a broadcast; in effect the Phil Neville of broadcasters - a jobber. As for Gray, the guy talks in cliche's and simply loves the Sky 4 and licking the arse of Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

It would be delightful if this saw the end of them, somehow I doubt it though.

They should both be sacked. Lady officials will have enough to contend with without these dickheads from the establishment putting them down.

I'd like to see those two pricks run a line for 90 minutes.

they've got a point though - female officials? Behave. Almost as bad as that reporter they put on MOTD once. Whilst they may understand offside, I'll stick with the Joe Royle comment, that women officials can't understand the game, as 'they've never been taken from behind by a 14 stone centre half'.

The Offside Rule and Offside Trap in Football(Soccer)
It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.

A player is in an offside position if:

•he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent

A player is not in an offside position if:

•he is in his own half of the field of play
•he is level with the second last opponent
•he is level with the last two opponents

Commiting an Offside Offence
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:

•interfering with play
•interfering with an opponent
•gaining an advantage by being in that position

No Offence
There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:

•a goal kick
•a throw-in
•a corner kick

Infringements/Sanctions
For any offside offence, the referee awards an indirect free kick to the opposing team to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred.

The offside rule exists to stop goal hanging, where a player stands next to the opposing teams goal keeper in the hope that someone can get the ball to him (probably using a long ball), so he can get it past the goal keeper. Which would make for a very boring game. Please be aware that females can not and will not ever be able to understand the offside rule......EVER

Hows that John??????????

Hairiest man on TV. If he stands out in the rain he swells to the size of a bunglaow and weighs over a ton. He should be shaved, shot and turned into glue.

Did you see what I did there? I cutted .............. then pasted.

I'm the Master, and even provided the Link in 'Linky' format. That ones all down to you my friend ;-)

Notice how the tosser refers to Dalglish as 'Kenny', like they're best mates. Poor Roy didn't have a chance did he.
