Why does he live in Wigan in the first place if he is looking for more cosmopolitan life? Correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge Wigan is 30 mins drive from Manchester.

He's right, Wigan is shit.

Wigan is a bit shit, but so are all of the old mill towns/Manchester satellite towns around here.

I've spent three winters in Madrid though and between mid-December and mid-February it's usually colder than here so that bit is nonsense. The chill on the wind is definitely worse - Madrid is about 2,000ft above sea level.

He's not wrong though is he? Some of the people I work with in Westhoughton are from Wigan. They remind me of those dogs you see who put their head out of a car window while the car is travelling at high speed.

Some of these blokes seem to think they can say absolutely anything about anything & so long as they don't say it in English, nobdy will ever find out. Mind you that's probably true for most people in Wigan, as they're still struggling to cope with the concept of electricity & iron birds in the sky.
