Fernando Torres

Reportedly, Liverpool have turned down a 35 mil bid from Chelsea but there's no mention of Torres wanting to stay. Now that Ade's off the books, and our previous reports of wanting the player, are we not back in for him considering this is the last chance to but without incurring the wrath of the new rules?

Apparently he has 50m release clause in his contract. The big question is: Would you at that price?

I reckon we enquired about him and then went for Dzeko.

Also, we must have had reassurances that Tevez wasn't going anywhere, or that if he was, we could move for Torres in the summer.

Otherwise, I'm with you in that I'm suprised we're not in the mix. If Torres stays fit and moves to Chelsea, it could see them on top for another few years with only slight tweaking here and there IMO.

Other reports suggest Chelsea will go back with a £50-60m offer. Also that there is a £50m release clause in Torres' contract. Is he worth that? Has Abramovich found his wallet or rediscovered his belief in Chelsea? This smacks of desperation at Chelsea to be honest but if they get Torres I would be quite happy to see Anelka back at City. I wouldn't go for Torres though, just too injury prone to be spending that much money on.

Balague says no release clause, but Torres wants the move.

according to Guillem Balague on twitter

@GuillemBalague Torres wants Liverpool to keep negotiating with Chelsea. There's NO buyout clause.Four days to go before a POSSIBLE exit.

torres wants out. if this is true big big trouble for liverpool.

Sign Torres pay him whatever and we are there for me, The best Centre forward available has to be a must sign he is that good, Tevez does one in the summer we lose 20 plus goals and Chelsea go on to be pain in the arse for yrs.

He's been known to be wrong, but interesting none-the-less. Torres has looked really disinterested of late and strange to see that he has picked himself up during the transfer window (or maybe the Daglish effect).

One question I would be asking myself if I was in the Cook/Marwood/Mancini seat would be 'Do we really want him, and do we want him to be going to Chelsea?'.

If he wanted to come, would it not be a gamble to let him go elsewhere?

i wouldnt be surprised if there's some kind of gentleman's agreement between us and Chelsea regarding certain transfer targets.

Torres is a great striker but I think Dzeko will prove himself just as good in the long run.

Besides anyone shelling 45million on Torres is a brave bastard, i personally still believe he will continue to be blighted by injury for the remainer of his career. After all once a professional starts getting injuries generally it's something that continues and worsens.

It's a hell of a risk for Chelsea.

Agree with that, but if you want the star mane and a great centre forward he ticks all boxes, with a big squad he will get the breaks he never does for the former big club.

Possibly because its a big risk shelling out £40mil+ on a player that could end up with as much game time as RSC

I wouldn't have thought so mate, Abramhovich wasn't thinking of us when he got on board with the FFP ruling, was he? Or, was he?

Out of interest, where would people place him in the 'Most well loved Footballer' list, ie. would he be a good buy for marketing purposes?

Well, Beefy, even with all his injuries which kept him out of the game so long, he's still on my top three fav strikers with Tevez and Villa; and I believe a lot of people think this way, just because of the name he's made for himself. He's not shattered that fame yet and so I guess it would be good for marketing purposes. But, so soon after signing Dzeko? It would seem very, very strange to me if we went for another top drawer striker.

Yes, he'd be good for marketing, probably in the top 10 in the world, at a guess, although a lot of that comes from fans in Asia wanting a Liverpool shirt. If he moved, they wouldn't necessarily change clubs, sertainly not to the tune of £50m worth.

I still expect Tevez to leave in summer and in that case, we may be interested in Torres, however, I can't see us getting him now and I'm not sure how he could play with Dzeko, unless we went to 4-4-2, as both are the out and out striker. If Mancini thinks he could get it to work, I wouldn't be surprised to see us bidding against Chelsea, however, for a transfer to be completed in summer, if Torres proves his fitness. It seems to be an open secret that he will be allowed to Leave liverpool if they don't make the CL, so he's going at some point, but they need him for the rest of the season, especially if they don't get Suarez. From our perspective, his injury record is a big risk. If he can play the majority of games for the rest of the season and get back to scoring, then he'd be worth the money Liverpool undoubtedly want for him.

The risk factor is there but we have it with Balo, always has a niggle, Balo and Tevez always linked away, Torres would set Coms on fire he is that good for me No brainer, Blow Chelsea out of the water and go for the main forward in Europe we are gonna need him.

I agree with you here mate and the combination of strikers we could use would be outstanding. We shouldn't be looking at Torres for the remainder of this season, but as a settled player for next.

Suarez in, Torres out - but to who?

Top 10???

He is easily in top 3. Probably second behind Messi. As far as marketing goes, he is as good purchase as we could get.

If we can get him,get him.

Yeah he's got a dodgy injury record but.....he will sell shit loads of shirts and even this season which has deemed to be a poor one from i believe he has still scored 9 goals.
