Could/should we bring him back from Rangers now that we are in need of a wide player?

My instinct is that, at his advanced age, he will never develop into a Premiershio player, certainly not at the top.

But he is better than Jo, so if we aint buying an emergency player, then yes from me too.

Mind you I think these days there has to be a recall clause stuck in there or you're stuffed, hence Given's thoughts this week. And with us trying to loan out everyone, I doubt many clubs let us put one in.

Could be wrong but I don't think there is an option of a recall on season long loans.

This is correct.

From what i've seen of him (very little to tell the truth) he has looked bloody good up in scotland. I know that there are a few that will say its a shit league blah blah blah, but he can only play those infront of him and he is doing great.
He must feel that he could come back with a chance of getting a couple of games next season.

would make sense, but if we have charged them for a season long loan, I think rules state we can't get him back until the loan expires

My recurring theme with these guys is that 19 times out of 20 you can see a Premiership player when they are 16 or 17. Sending people who are 21 going on 22 for 'development' is a statement of: "Had a look at you and went out and bought Adam Johnson instead".

I see Sturridge's 'development' is about to continue at Bolton.

I'd sell to Swansea if he doesn't make it with us. I think he'd fit right in with their style of football, and may help in creating a few more goals for them. I'm not saying he won't make it with us, but with these squad size limitations, next season has to be his final chance.

I see a bit more of Weiss than most people on here.

Whilst it is true he has done well for Rangers, This is by far and away the worst Rangers side in living memory. They wouldnt get out of the Championship and bar a few of his team mates he is surrounded by Championship standard players. The rest of the SPL standard as appalling. So given his reputation and expectations you would have expected him to stand out like a sore thumb but he really doesnt and goes missing quite a lot.

Watching him in the CL for Rangers and he looks out of his depth, In a lot of ways he reminds me of Robinho towards the end of his time with us. Full of tricks 40 yards from goal with no end product.

He is no where near good enough to play for us, I am not even sure he is good enough to make it in the Premiership. You have to ask questions when Owen Coyle who loves to play good football and has an eye for a player did not want to take him up after a loan spell.

Actually, to my knowledge, Weiss was with us before he turned 18 and therefore he is homegrown player.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Is he one of our best 6 or 7 currently?

Given
Hart (next season no longer a youngster)
Richards (see above)
M Johnson
A Johnson
SWP (okay, he'll be gone)
Milner
Barry

That still leaves 7 home-growns above him in the pecking order (injuries aside). If we bring in one English, Welsh, or foreign player who has played in England or Wales since they were 18, then his Home Grown 'talent' is no longer needed. Like I said, he's definately worth keeping around next season, but after that, I'm not sure, as many of those mentioned above will be around for a while, I'd guess.

Homegrown as in club grown.
Only players Club grown there are SWP, Richards and Michael Johnson.

That only matters for UEFA competitions. Do you see Weiss as a Champions' League quality player?

I honestly don't know. In games I've seen, it seems he has got the skillzz but seems to be running blind alleys constantly and wants to dribble the ball to goal instead of delivering good cross or shot. I think lad has the potential. Anyway, it's better having him on the bench in Champion's League than no one.

this is absolute bollocks though! he's our player we should be able to do whatever the hell we like with him, ESPECIALLY in the case of other players in that position getting injured. this is the daftest rule in football imo.

I agree, providing no loan fee was paid. Not sure if one was here, though.

Beat me to it Lee. I was coming on to post this exact question. I don't see a point in buying someone when we already have what we need.
