Mark 2nd February, 2011 Down As The Day I First.....

Postby The Original Special One » Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:41 pm

started to have serious doubts about Roberto Mancini's management.

Sure, I know there's been all this negativity clap-trap spouted about, which, as you all know, I've quickly dismissed because I'm a firm believer in building a team from the back.
I've backed him to the hilt when he offloaded favourite players like Craig Bellamy because he has to have a team of players around him who will follow his instructions to a 'T', and not cause problems for him, either on or off the pitch.

I've backed him with all these new Summer signings, because I knew the quality of player he was himself, and that he had a vision of the team he wanted, and the way he wanted us to play.
I've accepted all the sub-par performances, because it will always take a whole bunch of new signings time to adapt to a new style, a new league, new tactics.

But in our last two games we've dropped five points, admittedly playing away, to two poor teams, both of which with the quality of player at our disposal we should have beaten, and beaten well

At Villa Park, England's Number One gifted a goal to Darren Bent and made him an instant hero, on the only occasion they even looked to approach our penalty area.
Tonight at Birmingham, after having quickly gone a goal up, and re-established the initiative after more sloppy goalkeeping by England's Number One, we then proceeded to hand the initiative to a side who're barely good enough to get out of the Championship.
And gifted them another goal, through a second consecutive penalty conceded by a clumsy, over-the-hill footballer
(and yes, Roberto, it was a penalty, and stop making excuses).

I think the man has done a great job to date, in a situation where the knives have been out from him from Day One, and he's also bound to be conscious that they're constantly being sharpened, a la Brutus, et al., but he really has got to grab the bull by the horns, and address these serious concerns, before even a Top Four spot slips away from us:

1). Joe Hart doesn't inspire confidence
2). Patrick Vieira, at best, is fit for no-account FA Cup or Europa League games, or Premier League games which are already won (see (6) below);
3). Jo is not a serious attacking option; at least not until he bulks up, and acquires some bottle.
4). Dzeko, and Balotelli, when he returns, are not left wingers; Put them up front, where they belong
5). Sort out this zonal marking nonsense, once and for all
6). Go for the jugular, when you're ahead: and that means only a four goal lead, with less than 30 minutes to go, can be considered a winning lead, for the purposes of changing tactics, or making substitutions!

Why do you need your own thread to make this wonderful announcement? There's a Mancini out thread, a pessimism thread, a 'blame' thread, along with a million others.

Because he's The Original Special One.

Well he isn't original, it's not an overly special post and it certainly isn't the only one.

So he is "The".

Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn.

Sorry OP but as a City fan your obviously entitled to your views, but don't you get bored in thinking a manager should be sacked after a couple of average results.

Mancini is A man who could take us to the top, lets remember top 4 was our focus this season, we are still on track for that.

What the last 30 years has taught us is that we should stick with the manager. The only reason to start thinking about sacking him, is when the entire squad stop playing for him. I think this has nearly happened to Mancini twice in his reign so far.

I don't think its happening at the moment, we just need to sort out the defensive organisation.

As I said, I've stood by Mancini through thick and thin, which obviously includes a lot of very unsatisfactory performances and results.
But with Tottenham on our shoulder, and Liverpool looking as if they might come with a late run, us Mancini supporters need to let the man know our feelings, in the strongest possible, yet sane and measured, way.

I agree.

We are all disappointed but let the guy do his job. We got all this about Sven, then Hughes, both of whom moved us forward in their own ways, Mancini is also moving us forward, a little quicker in my opinion, but we CANNOT become the best team in the Premier League in a few months, but we may be next season.

I have been a City fan for 57 years and seen it all before and admit to getting a bit giddy when we were winning games, but I am a realist at heart so expect us to battle on to the end and if we secure a top 4 spot and just happen to win a cup along the way, you doubters will all be throwing rose petals at Mancini's feet again. Man up for god sake and stop panicking as soon as we hit a little bump in the road.

Which will achieve what exactly? I'm sure Mancio thinks he should have won both of those games also.

As the op pointed out allready 3 individual erros have cost us points , I'm not sure what Mancini could do about that . De jong had to go off so Vieira is the natrual replacement , only other choice is Zabs , and Joe has dropped a couple of clangers recently , sure we didnt play good enough for the entire game against Birmingham but without the cockups 2-0 would of been a decent result , at Villa we did everything but score and again Joe's poor push out cost us , we could of eassilly taken 4 points from the last two games with better luck .

Dear Mr Original Special One,

Take a look at my sig underneath this post and look at the comparisons. In both 1937 and 1968, we won the league. Our present record stands up very positively against the records of both of those seasons. Had you posted that stuff about mercer and Allison in 1968, with an almost identical record, we would have thought you were raving mad.

I have been a cab driver for 30 years and I'm bloody good at it. Mr Mancini has been involved in football for many years and his record in management shows he's bloody good at that. I would not expect him to come and tell me how to drive my taxi and i wouldn't be so arrogant as to think I could tell him how to manage a football club....and do you really think he would take much notice, if you did?
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT
