CARLOS TEVEZ became only the second player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick on his birthday.
The Manchester City hitman, 27 on Saturday, sank West Brom with his third Premier League treble in front of his daughters Florencia and Katia.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - who hit three on his 32nd birthday in Chelsea's 5-2 home win against Wolves on March 27, 2004, is the only other player to achieve the feat.
Tevez has equalled David White's City PL record by netting the opening goal for the eighth time this season.
And the little Argy has now converted four PL penalties this season - equal highest with Kevin Davies (Bolton) and Charlie Adam (Blackpool).
Platt reveals City's tactical plan -
Manchester City coach David Platt explained the tactical plan that helped Argentinean striker Carlos Tevez to score a hat-trick in Saturday’s league victory over West Brom.
It was the former Manchester United strikers’s third treble of his City career, and came on his 27th birthday. The hat-trick brought his tally for the season to 20 goals, and they have been instrumental in keeping City in Champions League spots.
Platt said: “We pushed players on in the first half. We knew that when we played at the Hawthorns our full-backs played in their half. The manager reinforced that before the game. We wanted to play in their half when we had the ball. We almost had numerical advantage going forward which enabled players like Carlos and David Silva to come off and find little holes. Carlos has also hit the post as well.”
Platt, who was hosting the post-match press conference as Mancini had lost his voice, was disappointed that City failed to push on after going three goals up during the first half. “We were a bit disappointed at full-time that we have not gone on and got more goals and played in a way we did in the first half. The next goal would have been very important because if they get it they are right back in it and they had a few opportunities,” he told journalists, “We have kept a clean sheet and that is a bonus. It is important for Joe Hart and his defenders. But what really counts is that we secured the three points.”
Zabba hails Tevez.
Meanwhile, Argentine full-back Pablo Zabaleta has reassured fans that his fellow countryman Carlos Tevez has found his spiritual home at Eastlands.
Zabaleta reckons his team-mates excellent form is due to him finally finding happiness both on and off the pitch.
He told the club's official website: “Carlos is a tremendous player and he has many more fantastic years ahead of him. He is very important to us as a player, as a person and as a leader - he's one of the best in the business.
“I rate him as one of the best strikers in the world and I think he has found his spiritual home at City because his scoring record is unbelievable.”
Zabaleta has also said that he believes his team-mate will pick up the golden boot award when the current campaign comes to a close.
“He is also right up there in the race to be the top scorer in the Premier League. He still has 12 games left to score many more goals and we will do all we can to help him achieve that.”
