That's an interesting study on the various kinds of playmakers/attacking midfielders and how they can impact a game, good job Mancio!! :D

Thanks very much for the translation link.
I don't think a playmaker is quite the same thing as a trequartista, but Silva is definitely one of the latter!
I think this was the basis of a dissertation written by Mancini for his coaching badges some years ago. What makes it a useful insight is that Mancini himself played this position as a creative midfielder for Sampdoria behind Vialli. If he plays just Tevez up front tomorrow ahead of Silva I think this paper is a clue to the tactics behind is system.

If Dzeko doesn't start tomorrow it could easily be as much that he isn't settled into the team, for such an important game, as anything else. I figured that slotting Dzeko into the attack would have a slight knockback effect, and i think it has so far, so it might not be worthy of reading too much into him not starting and Tevez being alone.. like v Brom.

Where's the little spunker gone, and where's his big brother Johnny Socs?

He is maybe now to return soon in the future, who is aware? Maybe only Neptune! But now my friends and also our citizens of the manfans.net, my question of posts are not of consiquence. What is absolute is that tomorrow we must 'smash it' to the red munes and end this rivalry. Remind the prawn eaters of how the father of Uwe's father raided their stadia and training infrastructre like a blitzkrieg!

Yeah, I'm him.

Looks interesting but haven't got time to read it now. I would say Yaya Toure has played something close to that role at least as often as Silva, with Silva often pushed wide..

Imo, in the modern game, a playmaker or trequrtista should score goals, so imo we don't have a proper one, we have several players doing bits of the job in different games rather than one player doing it.
