Another Could have Been

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Another Could have Been

Postby Goaters 103 » Sat Feb 12, 2011 4:35 pm

Am I the only one thinking we just blew it today? We had so much of the ball, and they were right there for the taking and once again we just didn't do it, didn't take the opportunity, end of.

Silva, though he played well, missed the target from 5 yards, whilst Rooney busted the net with what was barely a half chance, and that is the nub of the game.

In the past year or so against them, we've had to absorb a 96th minute winner, a 94th minute winner and a Cup Semi defeat in the 93rd minute, and then today we lose to that.

Being a City fan is essentially a continuous kick in the bollocks, but the time for "could have beens" and "should have beens" has to end right now. As Blues, I think we are all sick of hard luck stories, and being told how much the club has advanced. Its time we won a game like that, and one of our highly paid staff came up with a goal like that when we need it. Its also time we won something ffs, and we can start with either the FA or Europa Cup this season - its the very least of what our support deserves having had to absorb what we have for the last 30 odd effin years.

And even after that rant, I still dont feel any better.

I was talking to Ant after the game and was bemoaning the fact that its just never us is it, never. I compared City to the girl of your dreams, that has everything, good looks, great personality but who continually cheats on you and lets you down. You love her that much that you think i will forgive her and try again for her to treat you like a queen or king for a few weeks but then fuck up again and break your heart. Fuck off City............until Tuesday.

Spot on Fu, I am starting to wonder if its ever going to be our turn, and am sadly resigning myself to the fact it probably wont ever be. Am absolutely sick of the "next years our year" belief - the time should be right now with this playing staff. The players are there, the facilities are there, the fans are certainly there - no more excuses are acceptable.

Ah, I am so fucking sick. When I saw the post from Sister Fu I read it out to the better half (who couldn't care 2 cents about football) in an attempt to show her that women care about City too. She at least managed an "I'm sorry" then asks if it would make me feel better if we saw the movie "Blue Valentine" tonight. No it bloody wouldn't. It might make me feel slightly better if I met some plastic red rag twat walking down the street this afternoon and I ripped off his nose and stuffed his feet down his throat; I might feel a bit better if Wayne fucking Rooney got his ugly head stuck in an elevator door as it zoomed upwards; it might even cheer me up if Fergiescum got arrested for being an agent of AlQaeda. But not enough. The only thing that will really make me feel better is finishing in the top three and winning a Cup this season, as a preliminary to going to that house of pain and winning 7-0 in a performance of stunning beauty and power that sets the standard for years to come.

The best "football" team lost on the day.

The team that knows how to win won on the day.

We need to make that move to the next level now, if the scum get taken over and have plenty of money then we are never going to catch them and the pain is going to continue.

Don't really feel that bad about this one. We outplayed them on their own park for much of the game, something that hasn't been apparent since the takeover. We've always looked second best. Today we were just unlucky, and lost to a freak goal (ok it looked special but 99% of the time it would have been in the stands). Bit disappointed with us in front of goal, but overall not half as depressed as usual. For the first time recently we didn't look scared by them. (i know we never used to when we were shit, but that was because we had nothing to lose). The one that really pissed me off was the 0-0, we looked scared to death of them, today was totally different. Bodes well for the future.

I was in total agreement with you till the last point. Taken over or not we have caught them and when we start beating them, it won't stop. Before this game I would have agreed with you, but not any more. They rode their luck, got out of jail, and I seriously think it was their swansong.

Worra load of bollox....says more about you than City. Stop being so rags obsessed and FFS stop being so short sighted.
Losing a game to the team sat at the top of the league, on their own middin ain't the end of the World. No other team has won there.

Our journey to the top is long term. The Arabs understand that. Today is temporary...our development to the top is permanent.

...and yes, I am disappointed...and yes I hate the rags with a passion...but I ain't gonna slash my wrists because we haven't quite got to the point where we can beat the top of the League at the swamp. I will take the positive thoughts that we have come a long way, there is still a ton of work to do...but our showing today proved that we are so near...and marvellously in such a short space of time.

I think thast when we look back at the season's end, CL qualification, maybe a pot (or two) and we'll be chuclin all the way to the airport on our summer hols.

Thats all very good John, but I swear I read the same speech last season after the Carling Semi. Cut forward to 2012 and I sincerely hope we are not still "almost there" etc etc.

As for short sighted, I started watching this team in 1977 when it was half-decent, and have seen more false dawns than a Thai Bar owner since so forgive my cynicism, but spare me the psychology lecture.

Goaters Mate...You copuld possibly hear a similar speech (I hope not), next season too.
Forget the 1977 or the 1987 or even the 2007, this is a new City. 18 months of Hughes and now just over 12 months of Mancini, building on what he inherited.
We were told 2 things at the start of this project...1) That our ultimate aim was global football domination and 2)...That it would take a number of years...(not months). We should not forget that.
Today we played the current league leaders, on their own middin, where they have not lost all season. ^The league leaders who over many years have had the time to gradually strengthen their team, sort out their squad mentality and evolve into the side they are now.
Be honest with yourself, is it wholly reasonable to consider that we could develop a squad or team with the football quality, the winning mentality, the confidence and the on pitch instinctive play that would take us to the point where we would actually be the BEST team in the Prem?

On todays showing Mate...we aren't reallt that far away. Not there yet...but so very near.

Maybe we should be celebrating instead of feeling suicidal.

Instead of suggesting I'm feeling suicidal, lets justs for the sake of it throw some facts onto the table to examine the progress theory of us climbing upwards.

With 27 games gone this season, we have 49 points on the board.

At the very same stage last season after 27 games we had just beaten Chelsea at the Bridge to go 4th and we had . . . . cue drum roll . . . . . . 49 points - points wise we are exactly where we were last season. As Chelsea have dropped back, we have so far stayed above them hence why we are fourth, but with 27 games gone it isn't due to any geat leap forward points-wise.

In 6 games so far this year against our fellow accepted Champions League contenders (Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs) our record is, P6 W1 D3 L 2 - not exactly sparkling. We have 2 enormous games against Chelsea away and perennial nemesis Spurs at home - we dare not lose those games, but could you hand on heart guarantee we won't lose them? Hopefully we won't but you wouldn't bet the mortgage on it would you? I hope and think we have it in us to win them but make no mistake, they are absolutely pivotal.

Worst of all, In the last 8 games against the devil worshippers, since Sven's double, we have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 6 ffs.

Yes, at times we are playing some good stuff but in the cold hard light of day we are right where we were last year and we know how that ended. The two Cups we are left in will hopefully glean us a Cup win that we crave.

In a nutshell, the time for this team to stand up and actually do it on the field is right now. Our season is officially right at the business end, and taking 4 points from the last 4 games isn't cutting it I'm afraid.

The signs that we have the makings of a good squad are indeed there, I will grant you, but so too are the warning signs as well and we need to wise up and put some results together right now.

I believe that when utd last won the league, they didnt win a single game against the sky 4. Beating your rivals isnt the issue, beating everyone else is important.

I don't belive winning today was crucial, not losing though was.......I don't blame anyone, there is fuck all you can do against a goal like that.
