can't believe that some of the papers/sky sports are wanking over it - he threw his leg at it and SHINNED it FFS. As fortuitous as silva's FABULOUS goal.

It pissed me off when Purple Nose was going on about Silva's goal being lucky.... You'll see a lot more of those in your lifetime than Rooney's.

Come on mate, that was one of the best goals I've ever seen. Maybe only 2nd to Trevor Sinclair's goal for QPR in 97

The fact was he gave it a go, and regardless what part of his body it hit, he 100% meant it - it was one of the greatest goals of this era and to try and do it down is petty and yes......bitter

nope - have a look at the replay - comes off his shin. and people are saying it was one of the best goals ever or summat.

not bitter at all - nani's goal was fantastic. far better than rooney's.

it was a brilliant goal. It made losing feel a little better because that goal deserved to win any game in the world. I'm still angry we blew the chance to beat the scum though. fucking hate them.

Are people seriously saying it was brilliant as in he picked his spot and put it away. Come on, players try bicycle kicks all the time, done them myself. 99 times out of a hundred, they end up in the stands.
No doubt thats what he was trying to do, but the fact it came off was pure chance. So, yes I would say it was spectacular, and I would say it was brilliant, but to say he didn't get lucky is just being naive. It was brilliant in the same way as Niclas Jensen's goal against Leeds or dare I say it Danny Mills against Everton. If he tried that a hundred times it might come off once.

wonder goal happened cos any and all of our back 4 NEVER press on opposition forwards they just take positions , not quite zonal but easy to predict where they are at any time

That wouldn't be Wayne "Who's the whore now...Colleen forgave you, we won't" Rooney would it?

You may know him better as Wayne "sign for City and you're going to die" Rooney, though.

At the time I thought he'd caught it absolutely perfect but watched it again in slo-mo and he definitely shinned it. Doesn't matter now but definitely not the wonder goal it's being touted as.

he gave it a go ,it came off his shin and went in nothing more. Had it been djeko it wouldn't have been dubbed a wonder goal. Hands up it was a decent goal but not worthy of getting the kleenex out.

Give over. Wonderful goal, to even attempt that was one thing but considering the circumstances and importance it was bloody fantastic.

Probably the greatest goal the premier league has seen.

The fact it came off his shin means fuck all. If you want to disect every goal in the same manner, you could come to the same conclusion - of course most efforts end up in the stands, but this one didn't.

If Tevez had scored this.... fucking WOW.

Whether it hit his shin or not is irrelevent, it was a fantastic goal which turned the game & possibly won them the title. If it went in off his shin, he still must have got his leg into the perfect position for the ball to hit the target whilst upside down & middled it like a cricketer hitting a straight drive. Hitting any part of the goal with any part of your body whilst upside down, in a possibly title deciding derby, is fucking brilliant.

Fantastic goal no doubt. Made me laugh when some commentator asked a pundit " is this the sign that he is back at his best"

He played crap virtually all match and as Vinnie said he had him in his pocket till IT happened.

It was a great goal but obviously there was a large slice of luck about it. Zabaleta was isolated one on one against Nani. He turned his back on the cross ( you're better than that Zaba) it deflected off him, Vinnie slipped so couldn't cut out the cross and Rooney made a connection with an overhead kick which he hadn't made before in his professional career. We just have to suck it up.
