He also said that he team selection didn't matter as even his first string team would have lost against City last night.

Failing to mention we didn't have Kolo, Kompany, Tevez, Dzeko, de Jong or Johnson starting.

I don't doubt the team selection gave the game to City on a plate but we would have won anyway. A very strange over cautious decision.

I can understand him leaving his best players (Downing, Young) on the bench to protect them for important league games.

With a quarter final at home to a championship side beckoning, I found his team selection bemusing to say the least. Villa are extremely unlikely to be relegated as there is just so much dross down there with them.

To then follow that up by using some of the players he had left out as subs for a full 20 minutes was 'criminal'. Had they suffered injury he would have been shown up for the total fool that he is.

Villa’s starting 11 included Friedel, Dunne, Clark, Petrov, Agbonlahor and Heskey, they have all been regular first teamers at Villa this season.

City’s starting 11 was missing DeJong, Milner, Kompany, A.Johnson, Kolo Toure, Tevez and Dzeko.

I wish somebody would tell Houllier if you’re going to make a stupid comment don’t just quote what you’ve heard from ill informed pundits, check the facts!! Unfortunately none of the pundits who are in place to give such opinions have the first clue about teams like City and Villa, when they see us all they can talk about is money, top 4 and wasnt that fair challenge by DeJong too wreckless?

I have to say that much was made of City beating a weakened Villa side and the comment was made during the BBC 5 live Post match Report. It was stressed that Young and Downing weren't in the starting 11. No mention at all was made of any City players missing...Bad reportage...or deliberate?

Mate, I read one report where they said "Houllier's decision to rest Young and Downing" and then further down in the story is said "Mancini axed Tevez and Dzeko" and people wonder why we're paranoid.
