I was shouted at by a Rag on the train back to Birmingham (I was wearing a City top) at the weekend saying "I thought all City fans came from Manchester". This brought out one of my darker secrets, I am a glory hunter and I'm not from Manchester.
I come from Slough (currently live near Birmingham) and made a momentus decision in 1970/71 (when 6 years old) that I was a Man City fan having been taken by my Dad to an Arsenal-City game and seeing the Blue Gods of football lose 0-1.
I got my Dad to take me to away games in London and when I got older went to games at Maine Road and since my son has been old enough to come with me been a season ticket holder and gone to the games through the dark years down the divisions through to our current dizzy heights.
The question is when, if ever, do I stop being a glory hunter, and more relevant perhaps when do those who have joined us from across the country in the last few years lose that tag?

Hope this doesn't get deleted (like it did on the 606 forum), as it's relevant to City...

I am a final year student at Leeds Metropolitan University currently in the process of completing my dissertation/MIS (Major Independent Study). I have chosen to investigate the issue of foreign/non-UK national ownership in the Premier League. I have structured a questionnaire and am looking for the views of fans of all 20 clubs on this subject. Your opinions on foreign ownership will be vital to the conclusions I hope to make. As mentioned in the questionnaire introduction, I can send you a copy of my results section once I have completed the full report if you are interested.

It would be a massive help if you have a spare 10-15 minutes to fill it out. If you click on the link below it takes you directly to the questionnaire. Once you are finished just click 'submit' at the bottom.

Aristat, who do people in Slough normally support? Reading? That's a hobby/interest ffs, I think it's fair to let you off for supporting City.

I think the general rule here is that if you support United and you're not from Manchester you're a plastic tourist glory hunter.

If you support any other club and you're not from the local area then people are indifferent.

If you support City and you're not from Manchester then it's OK.

Similar rules apply to negative press releases.

It's forgivable to be a glory hunter when you are from a provincial town and are aged 4-14 years of age. Generally, you don't know better. After that, you need to wonder why you support a certain club and what connection you have to them. I have a League Two side that I follow, and they have made City's travails of the last 30 years look glorious in the extreme. This is why I balk when I see fans of an established Premier League club, with a fine history, dribble on about how wonderful fucking Barcelona are.

As a City fan, you already support one of the biggest clubs in the world; why the fuck do you need Barcelona?

In my opinion, you are a bit shallow and chav-esque if you wander around wearing a City shirt when you are nowhere near Eastlands. Replica shirts are generally for kids.

to date, you're not a glory hunter. Later this season, hopefully, you will be. With a bit of luck, you'll have to ring 606 and start by saying 'I've been a city fan since 1754' like the rags always do. As that'll mean there was some glory.

Guv, there is no better way to draw out other city fans, and people who don't like city, then by wearing a city shirt.

Damn right, down here I have gotten into some great conversations, even got a discount off a 3d TV the other day cause the salesman was a city fan.(of course, that could have worked against me if he was a rag)

You weren't interested in following the bin dippers like your dad? I'm curious because my whole family have always been city fans and i've never known anything else. It would be interesting to hear a story from someone who apparently had a choice in the matter.
