Quick run through Mancini's transfer stuff and only really Silva can be considered a definite success.
I know it is very early for a lot of these but a quick run through says
Boateng. Rubbish so far.
Kolorov. Average. In fact the two full backs that were replaced are still better than the big money arrivals.
Yaya. an exciting signing that has somehow ended up as "Hmm can't decide".
Dzeko, Early but hardly convincing so far
Balotelli. Looks like he's got real talent but that his attitude will fuck it up.
Johnson. Quick and skillful, we certainly miss him, but he couldn't hold down a first team place.
Silva. Splendid and great to watch.
Vieira. Why is he drawing a big wage from us?
Milner. Not very good.
Whilst all signings are never going to work, when you spend big money, it should cut down the risk of buying a cart horse.
Overall...It's been pretty poor.
The transfers out section aint looking the wisest either.

Kolorov cannot defend so its pointless putting him there - failure imo.

Boateng - he probably is good but not in the position where Mancini puts him - so hes also a failure in that right back position which is why Mancini bought him in the first place.

Yaya - overall hes below average which make it a transfer failure so far.

Dzeko - jury out on him as Mancini tactics do not allow us to judge him properly.

Baotelli - He is employed to score goals and the stats support his transfer..so based on that and that alone its a good transfer.

Johnson - excellent - but why is Mancini moaning that hes not in the side when he rarely ever got picked from the off before he was injured!!??

Silva - excellent.

Milner - shite

Vieira - cost us 2 games imo and overall a waste of space.

Baotelli - Wanker...embarrasment to our club...please sell!!!!!

Johnson - Great signing

Silva - Amazing singning

Milner - Was finding his feet and then got injured but i think he is a good signing even if we did pay too much

I was only thinking last night, through the blue mist which had descended following the defeat, that his buys have been even worse than Hughes'. Hughes made a few good ones (de jong, vince, zab) amongst the dross/overpriced mid-table fodder (kolo, lescott, bridge, RSC, RSC, RSC). I'll excuse him from Jo, providing he doesn't get any credit for Tevez, as I think both were bought by owners. Mancini has managed Silva in the plus column and just about every other signing is either in the bad column or, at best, the jury's out column.

I just can't defend Kolarov and Boateng right now, but it is early days. All the others, to be honest are great players, proven at the highest level, maybe with the exception of Balotelli who is a gamble.

I see one of the most talented squads in the world, not deployed to maximise its strengths. I cannot write off Mancini's signings, because they have not been given the chance under his system to shine.

Hughes' best signings weren't particularly great until this season (e.g. Kompany, De Jong)
I will give Mancini's lads some more time before I judge.

I actually rate all of those players. I have always thought He has bought well, he just doens't seem to know what to do with them

Mixed bag for me:
Kolarov - doesn't look too good unfortunately, still think we can get a better LB
Boateng - simply dreadful at RB, perhaps could be centre back, but Micah has nailed down the RB spot at the mo
Yaya - absolutely shite, he's lazy, unfit and a waste of a player. I'd happily get rid in the summer if he doesn't improve
Dzeko - early days but has shown glimpses of quality, we just never get the ball into the box. If we did, I think he'd be scoring loads!
Balotelli - attitude is questionable, but scores goals for fun
Johnson - has great talent, maybe not a starter yet but a great impact sub and could be great for us for years
Silva - a joy to watch, just oozes class
Milner - has been pretty good so far, but needs to be played centre mid as he's not a winger. Should be playing ahead of Yaya

I think Mancini has been really good in the transfer market, all players have been relativley young that he has signed.I love that his emphasis is on signing players who have youth on their side.I think at the end of next season a lot of these players will look far better than they have so far, its still early days for the majority of them and in fairness as a team collectively the players have had piss all playing time together.I think its inevitable they will perform better as they mature together as a team.

Kolarov-24- frustrating me no end.Just not convinced hes really good enough although i must admit. he has been an improvement on Bridge.

Boateng-21- Certainly a centre back in my book.He's been a horrible let down at full back and looked a lot better in the centre but so many better options as we speak in that position.Might get more of a shot at it with Kolo in rehab.Awful passer of the ball he really needs to work on that as he has games where he has passed to the opposition on countless occasions.

Yaya-27- I really like Yaya i think he's been really good for us.I would say i have at times been conccerned as to how fit he actually is, at times he has looked like he has been struggling to cope with the pace of the english game and has on occasion faded in the second half but other than that i think he's been a really good signing.

Dzeko-24- so far he has not exactly lived up to my expectations but hes really only just in the door and i really think he will do the business big time in the long run.He has scored some nice goals with really clinical finishing and had a couple of quality assists but has also had some very quiet games.In fairness hes been in and out of the side so its very difficult to judge him at this early stage.His work rate is really good i have been really impressed with that.

Balotelli-20- What a fantastic player.Unlike the majority involved in the ongoing witch hunt i will judge him solely on his footballing ability and so i think he's been a fantastic signing.His record speaks for itself that can not be argued.

Johnson-22- Great signing.Adds an attacking dimension to our side that is rare these days.Love his willingness to take a player on and beat him added to that he can score goals.Really missing him at the moment.-

Silva-24- small player but head and shoulders above all Mancini's other signings.A truly fantastic player.

Milner-24- I'm certain Milner is not a winger although he's regularly been given the task and has not really been that effective really has he.Looks far better in the middle but its rare he gets that opportunity.Even though i dont think he has really done the business for us i do feel we have missed him when he was out.

It took people quite a while to realise players like Nige & Vinny were good. Lescott has had a harder time gaining acceptance than Quentin Crisp prospecting for the Hells Angels, but is now proving a very valuable player. It takes time. Some of Bob's signings will become mainstays next season & others may fall by the wayside, like Bridge, RSC did.

I worry about Kolarov's pace but I expect most of the others to range between fairly good & excellent with Balotelli a completely unknown quantity who could be absolutely anything by this time next year, including best player in the Prem or gone. We need more players though. We are unbalanced.

Shouldn't this thread be titled Marwood's Transfer Dealings in the Mancini Era? I thought it was a team effort with Marwood pulling the strings.

Marwood is always there lurking in the background but never at the front of the queue when the blame is being handed out.
We know his role is to be in charge of football but WTF does he actually do on a daily basis....he must do something. Does he choose who we buy? If he does and they fail, why do we blame Mancini.

Isn't it funny that players get time but managers don't.

Should we not also look at those players that have put in a shift so far this season:

My view:
Kompany, deJong, Tevez: great seasons. Backbone
Zabaleta, Barry, Toure K: stalwarts. Unflashy but worked hard and contributed when needed
Hart, Richards, Lescott: dug in and put in some top (and surprising) performances

Which of these did Brian and Bob sign?
