Knowing our luck we'll beat them then get done by Bolton or Stoke.

City ending our 35 barren spell at their expense, in front of their massed fans and the World as a TV audience....with City fans waiting the due time to ironically sing..."35 minutes and won fuck all"....or as the rags empty out from Wembley, leaving vast empty terracing...."35 years and your not here"....or even...."Where are you now City's won?"
What a great but lost opportunity to fuck with their heads.

The 1925-26 season just has to be the most definitive "typical city" season ever. It had all the ups and downs to delight the "typical" City fan of the present day...and plenty of both. City had spent a lot of money strengthening the team and the rags had just been promoted from Div 2.
All in all, the rags were doing quite well, whereas City were having a goal fest and on our way to our highest ever number of 1st Division goals for..."89". The "typical City" bit was that we were also shipping goals in at the back, and had an even higher tally of goals against..."100"....Oooops!
September 1925 saw the 1st ever derby to be played at Maine Road and a 1-1 draw, before a crowd of 66,000. The following January's return derby at the swamp was a tasty affair...if you're a Blue...THE RAGS 1-6 MANCHESTER CITY. It is still the record score for a derby. We battered 'em before a crowd of 48,000 on their own swamp and at 0-6 to City, most of the rags had vapourised themselves and gone home and most missed their consolation goal, scored in the last few minutes.
But here comes another "typical city" moment. Long term City manager Ernest Magnall had left City and his replacement had also decided to resign. The City team was managerless and the team had to be picked by the chairman. Not a bad effort.
And so...onto March and the FA Cup semi-final played in Sheffield. The rags were the overwhelming favourites...hahahaha. The game was reported as being "GRIM"...In the 14th minute...City's Carson took a corner...Tommy Browell rose to meet it and the rags keeper was beaten...the ball was cleared...the rags claimed that Browell had used his hands...The ref said the ball had crossed the line and...it was...City 1-0 up.
It got rough...the rags centre half Barson clattered City's Sammy Cowan who wet down badly. Barson decided to do a Nani and pretended to be hurt too, to convince the ref it was an accident...The City fans went mad at the cheating rag bastard and the ref gave him a firm warning to behave....and he did just that.
In the 75th minute, City's Hicks pushed the ball forward...Barson completely missed it and Tommy Browell scored a second...2-0.
Only 2 minutes later....Frank Roberts moved forward, completely miskicked the ball but it fooled the rags keeper who shoved the ball onto the post, to see it rebound beyond him and into the net...MANCHESTER CITY 3-0 THE RAGS....and City were on our way to Wembley...
Oh yeah!...I forgot to mention amidst all that triumphalism..."typical City" finished 2nd bottom and got relegated...Aah well!!!

That has to be a record to be relegated with 89 goals!
