Must rather have them in the semis than the final.

Knowing our luck we'll beat them then get done by Bolton or Stoke.

Agree with you xavi!. Don't think my nerves could cope with meeting them in the fa cup final.

Should we do Reading today, I think we have it in us to turn them over!

I had a sneaky suspicion the draw would turn out like that - we just got an extra incentive to win today, so come on and let's bounce back.

I dont fucking believe it, well I can actualy. They will do what ever they can to stop us getting into a final, Im booking time off after it if we beat Reading today. I could'nt take that amount of shit at work again after losing to them in the last semi, if it happens again, it would be just bloody to much to take.

After all the fucking 97 minute goals, overheadkicks and Atkinsons, i think is our time now. One way or another we will end this awfull run with the rags, and what better way to knock them out from the cup?

GUTTED....I feel we have been sold short and taken away the chance of City giving them the ultimate embarrassment,

City ending our 35 barren spell at their expense, in front of their massed fans and the World as a TV audience....with City fans waiting the due time to ironically sing..."35 minutes and won fuck all"....or as the rags empty out from Wembley, leaving vast empty terracing...."35 years and your not here"....or even...."Where are you now City's won?"

What a great but lost opportunity to fuck with their heads.

Apparently the last time we played them in the fa cup semis about 80 years ago, we beat them then went on to lose to Bolton in the final. Thus time if we beat them I can't see us losing the final

27th March 1926...@ Bramhall Lane, Sheffield....Manchester City 3-0 the rags
(funny as fuck season)
The 1925-26 season just has to be the most definitive "typical city" season ever. It had all the ups and downs to delight the "typical" City fan of the present day...and plenty of both. City had spent a lot of money strengthening the team and the rags had just been promoted from Div 2.

All in all, the rags were doing quite well, whereas City were having a goal fest and on our way to our highest ever number of 1st Division goals for..."89". The "typical City" bit was that we were also shipping goals in at the back, and had an even higher tally of goals against..."100"....Oooops!

September 1925 saw the 1st ever derby to be played at Maine Road and a 1-1 draw, before a crowd of 66,000. The following January's return derby at the swamp was a tasty affair...if you're a Blue...THE RAGS 1-6 MANCHESTER CITY. It is still the record score for a derby. We battered 'em before a crowd of 48,000 on their own swamp and at 0-6 to City, most of the rags had vapourised themselves and gone home and most missed their consolation goal, scored in the last few minutes.
But here comes another "typical city" moment. Long term City manager Ernest Magnall had left City and his replacement had also decided to resign. The City team was managerless and the team had to be picked by the chairman. Not a bad effort.

And so...onto March and the FA Cup semi-final played in Sheffield. The rags were the overwhelming favourites...hahahaha. The game was reported as being "GRIM"...In the 14th minute...City's Carson took a corner...Tommy Browell rose to meet it and the rags keeper was beaten...the ball was cleared...the rags claimed that Browell had used his hands...The ref said the ball had crossed the line and...it was...City 1-0 up.
It got rough...the rags centre half Barson clattered City's Sammy Cowan who wet down badly. Barson decided to do a Nani and pretended to be hurt too, to convince the ref it was an accident...The City fans went mad at the cheating rag bastard and the ref gave him a firm warning to behave....and he did just that.
In the 75th minute, City's Hicks pushed the ball forward...Barson completely missed it and Tommy Browell scored a second...2-0.
Only 2 minutes later....Frank Roberts moved forward, completely miskicked the ball but it fooled the rags keeper who shoved the ball onto the post, to see it rebound beyond him and into the net...MANCHESTER CITY 3-0 THE RAGS....and City were on our way to Wembley...

Oh yeah!...I forgot to mention amidst all that triumphalism..."typical City" finished 2nd bottom and got relegated...Aah well!!!

Amazing that the F.A. didn't rig the pots for that to happen. Would've been a horrible lead up but a hell of a spectacle.

If we don't lift the trophy I hope Bolton do; they've been playing some great football ever since Coyle started there.

It is, also hold the record for scoring and conceding over 100 goals in the same season and the only defending champions to be relegated. According to john, Typical City doesn't exist though.

Just to comfirm the point about our goalscoring feats that season....Our FA Cup run saw a few goals scored too.
Round 3...Cotinthians............(A)...DREW...3-3
Replay..............................(H)...WON....4-0
Round 4...Huddersfield Town....(H)..WON....4-0
Round 5...Crystal Palace.........(A)...WON....11-4
Round 6...Clappton Orient.......(A)...WON.....6-0
Semi-F....the rags.......................WON....3-0

I think the Crystal Palace score is still a record FA Cup win for us.

@ Slim,
The points I have tried to make about "Typical City" is that all teams have had similar experiences and it is not a particularly City thing. The other point is that many translate "Typical City" as a negative factor and consider it has always stopped or stulted our progress in the past and still remains a negative reason to halt our progress now. It has been just as much a positive factor, where we have has success amidst the general carnage too.
I do think that our City sense of humour has meant we have picked up on it and made it our own, whereas other clubs largely ignore it when it applies to them. I am sure if I dug around the rags past...(and I have no intention of soiling my hands or mind) I could find just as many silly incidents that they ignore.
If Typical City does exist...it should be treated lightly and humourously...to give us a chuckle...That's all mate.
