SWP's last start?

Postby 13021J » Sun Mar 13, 2011 10:14 pm

Tonight could well have been SWP's last start for City. And I for one thought he was awful. He has lost his pace that was vital to all that he could offer. He is low on confidence and so his passing and delivery were worse than ever. He was up against Ian Harte, and could not dominate even him. I don't think Mancini will trust him in any of our remaining games.

Such a shame but he is gone.

He didn't have a very good game although I have seen somewhere a poster saying he was up there for MotM! There seems to be always someone.

Totally agree, SWP without the pace he had is nothing, n sadly it appears that pace has gone all he seems to wanna do these days is slowly dribble upto a defender then knock the ball outside them n run past only it just doesnt work either the defender cuts the ball out cos they know thats all he will do or the ball goes out of play before he gets there, sad but his days at anywhere near this level are long gone, however I cant wait to see AJ n Micah playing together in good form down our right side now that is tastey, pace power n skill

I agree no confidence and the pace has gone. He took the wrong options even when he had oppotunities. Needs a transfer,

He is trying to play the Manchini way of passing rather than running with the ball, it just does not suit him

I thought he worked much harder than he has done in recent times & did a decent job, including keeping his head & setting up Tevez for what should have been the 1st goal. Got tackled a couple of times in bad positions but not as often as many others. His closing down was particularly valuable for a side containing Yaya & Vieira.

Have to agree with your sentiments.

He put a decent shift in, and though by no means MoM, he did more good than bad imo.

Same here. Can't see why it would be his last start when he offers as much, if not more, than any of the currently available replacements in his position.

As Ted says he did set up a good chance for Tevez who wasted it but in general I thought he was poor. He does work hard and track back but his primary job is to get past people and deliver quality ball in the final third. Either that or cut inside and have a decent pop every now and then. There he continually disappoints these days. Frankly I wish we'd got in a pacy right footed wide player in the transfer window and moved him on. I can't see him having a future at the Club after this season and when AJ is fit he'll slip down the pecking order again. He had a golden opportunity to roast a Championship full back and really show Mancini he still had it. Sorry to say he blew it.

You can't expect someone who's been injured and in and out of the side for some time now to play fantastically. He needs a run of games. After the United game people were praising him, give him a chance.

Anyone who is still claiming he's still got it n giving excuses for evertime he fails to catch the eye is seriously living in the past, there is no room for sentiment if we are to push on to the heights we aspire to, he has been a very good player but it proved at chelsea he isn't that very top class, n now he is on the slide with his best years behind him, had we not been injury ravaged he wouldn't be gettin a sniff of action now, sad to say but his future lies elsewhere he isn't good enough for a top 4 side

Who would you have put in today instead of him? And what would they have done that he is incapable of?

I didn't think he did that badly myself. If we're to get the best out of him, he needs gametime like Lescott did. We just can't afford to give it him regularly though. I'd be more than happy to keep him on next year.

As i said its circumstance thats giving him a game, sooner or later we are going to have to give some of the young players a chance, today could have been the opportunity to have dropped one of em in also i believe Mario will come good n would possibly have played him there if none of the younger players were upto it

The bigger issue for me is why do we have to play a 5 man midfield with 3 central? Holland made it to the world cup final with NDJ protecting the back 4 n Snjeider makin things happen, we should be playin like this n giving Carlos some support upfront with a player to play off

Mario will come good, but it won't do him much good playing as a winger with a section of the fans ready to get on his back. I'm all for young players too, but don't know of any that are really up to the level required right now. SWP can still get in good positions, has a decent shot in his locker (somewhere) and shows responsibility tracking back. He is a decent option until the end of the season, and then he can be moved on to make room for a prospect next season. An FA Cup quarter final, with the possibility of a first semi-final in 30 years, was not a great opportunity to blood one of the kids.

Yeah fair point but look at what the scum did with their midfield yesterday, n against Arsenal not a championship side, Bobby should be gettin one of these young lads n instilling in him he is good enough for this level n to go n show everyone what he can do, They do it in Stretford

Sorry dazby, when he did is round the corner flick and chase, the old sweep would have skipped away like the defender was in reverse, he didn't and was caught easily. This is not a match fitness thing, this is the pace no longer being there. As much as I hate to agree with anyone(cause I'm always right and people agree with me), Ruthless has it on the money here.
