Five-game b*ll*x for Ferguson
United boss punished by FA for criticism of Atkinson

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been handed a five-match touchline ban and £30,000 fine by the Football Association following his criticism of referee Martin Atkinson.
Ferguson had been charged with improper conduct by the FA after questioning Atkinson following United's 2-1 defeat at Chelsea at the start of the month.
He was unhappy with Atkinson's failure to show Chelsea defender David Luiz a second yellow card for a trip on Wayne Rooney before the visitors scored a decisive penalty and United then had Nemanja Vidic sent off.
"You want a fair referee, or a strong referee anyway - and we didn't get that," said Ferguson to MUTV in the aftermath of the game.
"I must say, when I saw who the referee was I feared it. I feared the worst."
Ferguson had opted to appeal the charge and, speaking prior to United's FA Cup win over Arsenal at the weekend, stated that he had truth on his side.
"I felt aggrieved and I now face an FA charge for what, to my mind, was simply telling the truth," he wrote in his programme notes.
"I will be defending myself strongly when my FA appeal hearing comes up.
"In fact, I am looking forward to the challenge because, to my mind, I have not said anything out of place, however much the media urge the FA to take action."
However, the FA has found Ferguson guilty of the charge and the long-serving United boss has been hit with five-game ban from the dugout.
The length of the ban is in part due to the two-game suspended tariff he had hanging over his head for questioning the fitness of referee Alan Wiley last season.
It means Ferguson will be in the stands for United's next four Premier League games, starting with Bolton Wanderers' visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.
Ferguson will also be a spectator for the matches against West Ham, Fulham and Everton and he will not be allowed in the dugout for next month's FA Cup semi-final against arch-rivals Manchester City.

Good or bad I don't know, but at least they've actually taken action.

Misses:

Bolton H
West Ham A
Fulham H
Us at Wemberley.......Wemberley.......we're the famous Man City on the Road to Wemberley......
Everton H

Strangely, back for the Arsenal and Chelsea game.

Great that action has been taken, but I'm sure Mike Phelan can be trained to jump up if they score and shout at the officials. Other than that, what does he actually do in the dugout?

Fucking joke, 30k is pocket change to him and he wont pay it anyway - a ban to the directors box with warm seats, great view and direct phone coms - i bet hes fucking trembling in fear! Basically the fear and influence hes allowed to impose over officials makes it all worth while from his persective, he will probably win the apeal to get it reduced anyway!

Aparently if it was uefa they would have banned him from

If he was banned from the changing rooms I'd be more confident of it making a difference.
Touchline ban means fook all.

Exactly its fucking pointless. He gets a better view of the game and is able to go into the changing rooms before the game and at the interval. And I bet he can communicate via phone down to his assistant throughout the game as well.

He gets his team loads of decisions just by merely getting up and kicking off.

Remember at the swamp last year that cunt was banging on about time, getting in the fourth officials ear etc etc etc it's what he does and he works the system. He also dishes out loads of shit to the players Phelan is a muppet and wont have the same influence as taggart.

He wont be able to do that from the stands.

Let's wait to see what an appeal does. Really though its about time something was done as he has been having his own way for such a long time and all it has done is encourage everyone else to do the same.

I don't actually think it will mnake a lot of difference anyway But of course Durham says its equivalent to handing the title to Arsenal. That guy is such a complete Tosser.

yeah, but it is the ban that confuses me

Unless I am mistaken:

he can do the pre-match stuff with the players - then he sits in the stand

he can do the half time stuff with the players - then he sits in the stand

He can do the subs - just a call to Phelan

so ...... what is really the big issue

It takes his influence away from the bench.
Which is a big thing.

Hope it means something - but just cannot see it - the only thing he seems not to be able to do is continuously moan at the 4th official - re the bench - the subs are under his control - so cannot see the big deal to be honest - although no doubt there will be lots of scum whinging

Edit - also am I right to think that the ref he was having a pop at is the one who will be reffing the semi - so there is another ref trying to get back in his good books - thats the way it seems to work

Touchline bans do affect teams - if not during the game, then in the build up to it.

Anything which is not the norm and upsets the applecart is never welcome at any club - especially one that is so used to getting away with this sort of shit.

No, this is a good thing. It certainly does "make a difference". How much, time will tell, but this is a mediocre team punching above their weight IMO and things such as this will upset them.

I think it matters mate......the cunt can always watch from home and ring to make any changes so tactics wise it makes no difference where the fuckign tramp sits or goes......but he wont be there to mind fuck the officials which the piss breath does all the time............this is a good ban.
