Is Kolarov Crocked?

Those who saw Kolarov before he came to city, did he not look quick to you? He did to me, then when I 1st saw him I thought he looked quick but suddenly seemed to lose pace. Also his delivery went from fantastic, to shite.

Remember how much slower & worse in the air Micah was when he came back from that injury & how long it took to come back? Could it be that the Ford Anglia we are currently watching has a Ferrari engine which needs tuning? Or is Italian football so shite that anyone quicker than Gareth Barry looks like Usain Bolt? In which case, add Italy to Brazil in the 'NO MORE' bracket.

I spotted this on Bmoon earlier & it shows what Bob thought he was getting at the time:

Mancini collars Serb Kolarov

MANCHESTER CITY have completed a £16million move for Lazio left-back Aleksandar Kolarov.
Eastlands boss Roberto Mancini has landed the 23-year-old on a five-year deal despite late interest from Juventus.

Mancini said: "I want two top class players for each position.

"I first saw Kolarov in his Lazio debut back in 2007. I was impressed by the speed and strength of someone so young.

"He was composed on the ball had an excellent delivery with his left foot and was technically very able.

"I have watched him a lot since then and so have the Manchester City scouts.

"His attacking capability is very good. He is fast and can shoot with power and accuracy.

"He also has the ability to play in numerous positions and is very good in midfield.

"This is an additional benefit to the team. He has a fantastic international career ahead of him.

"I am looking forward to working with him."

Now it's one thing us getting it wrong watching on TV but if you've seen him in the flesh, for years, you'd surely know if he had pace or not? Could it be that he's been carrying an injury all season & manfully struggling through, with bastards like me unfairly slaughtering him, or is Bob clueless?

Got to be then ain't it. Not even our scouts could watch him loads of times and miss a lack of pace ... He will probably be as fast as Bolt next season ... maybe

Just asked Gab Marcotti whether he thought Aleks had been quick in Serie A, and this was his answer.

Over first few yards, no, in open space, once he gets going, more so

I hate to say this but Kolarov is by far the most disappointing signing we have made so far under Mancini and that's saying something. I really was excited about him signing and now I just get dismayed when I see his name in the squad never mind the team. He has been at the center of most of our defensive fuck ups in the last number Of weeks and in many cases it's been his lack of intelligence as opposed to speed that has been the problem.

Problem is, he wasn't really tried and tested in the Serbian league before transferring to Lazio. Otherwise we could have judged him on his guile in a more physical league.

Like Ted said, we should blacklist Italian signings, unless they're proven elsewhere first. Something most of the Prem has understood (with exceptions) for the past decade.

Possible the knee injury is still troubling him. Not sure that explains his inability to tackle and lack of positional sense though.

At the moment, he's right up there with balo, milner, boateng, dzeko and yaya as Mancini's worst signing. At least Vieira has been worth every penny we paid for him

thought it was an ankle injury ... either way, he doesn't look comfortable moving around, only time will tell if he's just slow or if the injury is still affecting him in some way.

Well I've not seen him play a lot (he was at Lazio and since I Support Roma in Italy, I neverr watched a lot of Lazio games) but he didn't seem slow to me; not as fast as Ronaldo or Messi but definitely not slow either. Of course the difference of pace between the Serie A and the Premier League must be considered but I never thought he would struggle on speed.

It's his lack of technical ability that concerns me. And no injury is going to affect that.

I'd like us to get another in next season to challenge him.

He WAS quick in Lazio. His delivery was always so and so but when he got shots on target they were brilliant. However, and I said this when we signed him and was called negative, he was NEVER good defender. EVER.

This I can agree with; but I thought in modern day game the fullbacks weren't asked to be so good at defending if they could provide width and good delivery going forward; I mean, Maicon, Clichy, Alves, all are good going forward but they all have their suspect moments when defending. Even Evra and Lahm aren't always solid when defending, although they are generally good defenders.

It seems that in the Prem you need fullbacks good at both sides of the game, while in Spain, Italy and other countries the defending takes a back seat to the attacking now as fullbacks are concerned.

If Kolarov can find 2 yards of pace, I think he could learn to become a good enough defender & be an absolutely tremendous attacking player. If what we're seeing is as fast as he's going to get, he's a complete joke. Pace is the key for him.

FFS He goes down the left and does that "thing" with the ball (Its all he can do to change direction) and you can read it like a fucking peter pan book........it gains nothing from it and ends up stopping and passing the ball way back to some other cunt. (Thats if he is not dispossessed first)

He also turns his back on a shot.

Never in a million years has he been worth the money spent on him.
