The Mad Hatter Saloon - City New York HQ

I don't think I can really let today pass without taking time out to salute our first (and I'd say must be best) heart of the city boozer.

Spent yesterday watching the match in New York and (on the recommendation of Doom Merchant and LookMum and the very sociable invitation of Kiss_The_Goat) headed along to the Hatter with the Aussie. Even putting aside the result I can quite honestly say that it was the best afternoon watching City in a pub ever. What a bloody fantastic place this is and, if you ever find yourself in New York on a match day I tell you all that you'd be a fool to miss out on the chance to enjoy a few hours here.

Wall to wall Blues it was....full on City shirt clad Manc exiles, local converts and lots of (previously unfortunate!) other halves who had been coerced and cajoled into following the sky blue cause. All afternoon spent belting out songs and sinking pints (kept flowing brilliantly by the fantastic bar tender) and having a top top laugh with such a great bunch of City fans. Brilliantly several of the regulars travel down to NYC from Conneticut, Washington DC and elsewhere just to get together in Blue HQ and if any of you live in the states and have the chance to do it, you really should.

I can't recall everyone's name but I just wanted to give a big shout to everyone we met and who made a fucking fantastic day even better. Big up to Coyle, Barry, Tim, John, Jeff, Claudia (the long suffering, non football loving but evidently very supportive!) Holly and all of the rest of you guys we met (and whose names escape me!). Honestly, an unforgettable afternoon! (and if anyone has a photo from us all singing out on 3rd Ave I'd love a copy!)

Wooohooo what a day!!!

It really is bloody brilliant mate, such a great bunch of regulars too. Massively hospitable and a fantastic laugh!

And then to get a result like that....well, if Carlsberg did Saturdays.....

Watto cried when we won! Think that says it all

I know mate though, I would have LOVED to be there. I was buzzing that you were though. Did you get my text telling you that I loved you?! haha

Can you post the address please. I am going to NYC in July and would like to pay a visit. Do they show basbeall too? I am going to at least 5 Yankees games. I love them slightly less than City. Staying at the Grand Hyatt above Grand Central Station, 10 nights.

It's 360 on 3rd Ave, it took me about 15/20 mins to walk from Times Square.

Not sure if they show baseball.

Posh place!
The pub is on the west side of Third Avenue between 26th & 27th Streets. Closest subway is the 6 train (to 28th St.) then walk three blocks east. Buses go down Lexington Avenue which is right by the Hyatt. Walkable in ten minutes from Grand Central. Bus back up Third Avenue to 42nd.
But the Yankees? They're the ManU of baseball and just as arrogant. Get out to Queens on the 7 train and see the lovable Mets.

I see the Red Sox as the scum of baseball. Yankees are blue and white. I know what you're getting at though. The Mets are just shit. Made up colours, made up team.

It was a surreal walk for me, bit stoned, sunny Sunday morning and passing all them fruit stalls on 3rd Avenue was brilliant. It is one of the best places I have watched a game.

How long has The Mad Hatter been a city establishment?

I was over in New York in 2006 and could not find a bar open in the morning that was showing the game kick off was at 7.00 in the morning in New York.I ended up in a burger king going online to find out what was happening.Nightmare of a morning.Wish i had knon about the mad hatter.Plan to go again and will without a doubt be seeking out this place for a few pints.

Not so, mate, the blue & orange are the old historic colours of New York City (orange for the Dutch who were here) and the Mets are heirs to the grand old Brooklyn Dodgers.

How on earth do you consider the Red Sox the scum of baseball, the Yankees are U****d of baseball, they even sell their bloody shirts in the shop. Way off base mate, Yankees are wankers of the highest order.
