That really is frightening and certainly puts some of our "bad buys" into perspective

They might as well have paid an actor to play the role of a footballer for all the money they wasted on him.

Well there you go 14 games and 3 months in. Lets say he is on £150k per week thats the best part of another £2m in wages. Then there will be agents fees, national insurance and other bits and pieces probably another few million. So £55m for a goal in a game you would have won anyway. Good stuff. Still the next one will be cheaper! If he scores every 14 games thats about 4 a season. By the time he is forty he might have scored enough goals to get them down to about £3m each!

There are two sides to this story, in fairness.

The one on which most understandably concentrate is the ridiculous financial waste of his contract; he's never scored once for West Ham, had a terrible injury record with Newcastle and actually failed his medical before we awarded him it.

On the other, though, are the facts that he was in the England squad in the month we bought him and was appallingly injured by a Bristol Rovers player who, tackling from behind, broke one bone in the leg in two places - only weeks after he was signed.

The Dyer we'd signed disappeared that day. He's likely to have one last contract at Portman Rd, I'd have thought.
