As so many times before, we are having long and winded discussion about the use of the word. I wanted to set up a poll to see how the majority feel.

For what it's worth, I'm cool with it as long as the chant is witty.

I'd rather it not be used but there is fuck all i can do to stop it and i tend to opt out as it does get the media going,the song last night could easily have Stretford,Trafford,Salford,Cockneys in it's place and piss them off just as much.

surely there are other ways of winding teams up other than singing about a tragedy.

There are Munich songs and songs that refers to rags as Munes though.

Referring to a United supporter as a Mune (Munich) is, by definition, referring back to the event which makes it possible to refer to him or her as a Mune. And thereby diminishing the loss of life and terrible injuries suffered.

I was only one year old when the tragedy happened but my older brother (a City fan) waited outside Old Trafford for hours for news to filter through - he wasn't alone, many City fans were there and many City fans also lined the streets as the bodies were brought home.

Out of habit I sometimes still refer to their fans as Munichs; I don't sing about it now...I grew up on the Kippax singing about snow, people dying on runways and the like but I was a kid then so knew no better.

None of the options actually summarise my feelings on this.

It's shocking taste in the wrong context (i.e., aeroplane gestures, WTLOTR) but can be good banter in private when among friends. I use the term 'muneboy' to take the piss out of my red mates but would never utter the word in a context that I knew to be GENUINELY upsetting or offensive to someone.

I bet most of those saying that it has no place in a civilised society have texted someone a joke about a celebrity death or a natural disaster in their time.

If you haven't then fair enough - I'll hold my hands up and say you're a better person than I am.

Finally, I don't understand why some people think that we as fans need to reach a consensus over such things, and can't listen to a contrary opinion without getting wound up and insulting (twosips, por ejemplo).

I couldn't care less about those who died at Munich, I'm sure it was all very sad at the time and I know that football (and the City - United rivalry in particular) wasn't so tribal back then so I'm sure it was felt across a broad spectrum of football fans and normal folk. But do I, in 2011, really care about the "tragedy" of it. No I don't.

As I've said before, I have never sung Munich songs at a match and don't think I would.

As football fans, and rival fans though United deserve no respect from us whatsoever. I have many close friends who are reds. I like them as people but cannot fucking abide them as football fans. They hate it when we drop the Munich bomb......like nothing else. It is petty it is distasteful but it is effective and I don't really care whether some delicate flowers amongst us don't like it
