Obviously SSN and their crew are having an hour long wankfest because United managed to score two goals against a german team currently lying TENTH in the league. They could have score more had it not been for the best goalkeeper in world football don't you know??!
Anyway, lets decimate this little wankfest and share what you think is the greatest european performance you've seen by a team?

Can't wait for tonight's match, make last night look like a bunch of amateurs kicking the ball around the local park.

Put this question on a Liverpool forum and they will have one hell of a list.
No doubt at all the scum were good last night but as somebody said somewhere it was only like City played against BBurn the other night for the first 20 minutes. The difference was BBurn woke up ,worked hard and changed tactics.I was just baffled at how little effort Schalke put in and how easy it was to find space by doing very little. How it was only 2 nil ( even allowing for the keeper being good) is a mystery to me.

I don't understand why United's performance last night is getting so much hype! Don't get me wrong, it was a great win.
But on the BBC's gossip column, they have a whole section dedicated to reports about the United game. I've never seen that ever before. I normally trust the BBC website the most as it normally appears to have less bullshit on it compared to other sites, e.g. Sky Sports.
Back on topic though, the Champions League has produced some great performances in recent years:
- Liverpool's comeback vs. Milan
- Barcelona's complete dominance vs. United
- Mourinho leading Porto all the way to the title
More importantly, the Europa League/UEFA Cup has chucked in a few too:
- City beating Schalke 2-0 away (not exactly hard is it)
- City beating Hamburg at home 2-1
- The first minute of City away to Hamburg
- The Poznan fans vs. City home and away
The last 4 were probably the best in recent years ;-)

The Coppa Del Rey was a travesty of a result really. Barcelona dominated for the whole game but as ever were always looking for the killer ball and the perfect goal. Over two legs it may be more of the same, Madrid outclassed in virtually every area of the pitch but Barcelona unable to finish, perhaps that couldn't happen two games back to back though. Madrid would put up much more of a fight than Schalke did and Mourinho will have a better plan for overcoming Salford but I would much rather see Barcelona stroll past Madrid without much effort and then absolutely annihilate their opposition at Wembley.
I know reds who were crapping themselves last night but are now saying that City will do very well in Europe if that is the standard.

best performance I've ever seen was AC beating barca 4-0 (I think) in the european cup final in about 1994. Totally dismantled them

In terms of a game, Chelsea - Barcelona at the Bridge (circa '05 iirc?) was about as good a match I've seen at any level.
AC Milan handing the rags their arses in '07 was a pretty awesome performance.

Haha brilliant! How did I forget that?? But they didn't have the greatest goalkeeper of all time then :)
The exaggeration on SSN is phenomenal. You'd swear they just beat Barca 2 nil in the nou camp.
For me, it was probably Barca beating the rags. I thought they outclassed them in every department. I think they'll do it again too... only with more penetration :)

I'll remember four, in no particular order; two I was there for and two on TV.
Real Madrid 7 Eintracht Frankfurt 3, European Cup Final at Hampden Park in 1960 (?)
Manchester United 3 Atletico Bilbao 0 (6-5 on aggregate) at Maine Road in 1957
Manchester City 5 FC Schalke 1 (5-2 aggregate) Cup Winners Cup semi-final 1970
Benfica 1 ManU 5 (E.C. semi-final 1969)

To be honest that is very true. Neuer was excellent again, and I am not sure if he is the best goalkeeper in the world yet but he is certainly right up there. One of the reasons why he will be leaving Schalke in the Summer.
If we didn't have Hart already, I would hope we would break the bank for this guy.

Was that with Capello as manager? Also didn't Barca get Klinsmann on loan because Romario was injured or something like that? Strange how that was allowed?

A few of the Boro performances on their way to the 2006 UEFA final were top.
Only five years ago, and now they're irredeemably shit.

Best goalkeeper in the world? Maybe. Definitely one of the best. I think it's a tie between Akinfeev from CSKA Moscow and Adler from Bayern Leverkusen, at least I rate those two the most. I rate Adler just ahead of Neuer. I also like the little Mexican flying machine of Guillermo Ochoa. He's insane!
Anyway, best European performance? I think it has got to be Liverpool's comeback against AC Milan. Considering the stage, the moment, the time. It was a fairytale ending, one you only see in films.

Didn't we beat AC Milan away in the early 70's?

Barcelona vs The Scum from the final a couple of years ago.
They didn't even get a sniff.
