Real Madrid

For all their star players, tricks, shots etc, there's one thing they're doing in tonight's game that is completely on another planet from us: TAKING FUCKING CORNER KICKS. Kaka, Ozil, anycunt, putting the ball right into the danger area where THEIR PLAYERS ARE. Not swerving it at 90 mph, dipping it over everyone's heads to curl it inside the far post, just PUTTING THE FUCKING BALL INTO THE AREAS OF THE BOX WHERE THEIR PLAYERS ARE. Same thing when they cross it: aim it into the area where their players are, even if there's just one of them in there.

We are fucking beyond shite at it & possibly the worst team in Europe at that part of the game. We probably got more in today than usual but it's still nowhere near good enough.

CROSSES, DIAGONALS, SET PIECES FOR AND AGAINST. FOR FUCKS SAKE, SORT IT OUT.

They're playing a good attacking form of football in this match too (I'm not saying we don't - just commenting on the match), Ozil and Kaka in the starting lineup. Very entertaining so far.

Im more worried about the zonal marking on set pieces.
Done again today,Stoke and Spurs are gonna lay that shit on with a knife time and time again.

A lot of people have written off Kaka but I would wait until next season as he's spent two years carrying injuries. I wonder how his scoring record per game whilst injured or recovering compares to any of our midfielders or Dzeko/Balotelli.

Tbh I think it's been more down to Vinny being fairly shite at his job in recent weeks than the zonal system.

In recent times, Vinny in particular has let his man have a free header in almost every game, often more than once per game. He should still be stopping that, even in a zonal system.

(The fake) Ronaldo has just scored his fourth and Real's sixth goal, still quarter of an hour to play.

Barca score direct from corner kick. If I'm not mistaken, they have now scored more than we have from corners. Even the world's best tippy tappy team is better than us at crosses & corners.

Interesting stat during the rags game: Rags haven't conceded a headed goal when Vidic & Wio have played together, since March last year. Wonder how many they've scored? Wonder how many we've let in? Wonder how many we've scored?

This stuff is the key to City being a genuine title/Chump's Lg contender imo.

Wait & see; we'll either become good at it next season or Bob will end up sacked & the bloke who replaces him will sort it out, then we'll suddenly win loads more games.

Alternatively we could man mark like Arsenal and concede a ridiculous goal scored by Kenwyn Jones.

How many more times are the players going to take a short quick free kick whilst Lescott and Kompany are trying to get forward, only to run back again, because the free kick had already been taken. I've seen Lescott get stroppy about this a few times and rightfully so. We've got height, we need to use it goddammit

Or we hit the 1st man or kick it straight to the goalkeeper when we have a penalty area full of players over 6 foot tall to aim at.

Sven, Hughes and now Bob have failed to address this deficiency. You'd think that three managers would have found some cunt that could cross a ball or deliver a corner with some panache. it's kind of a joke really. Spanish Gaz probably was better at this than anyone in the current lineup...which is just fucking shocking.

if we're smart we'll grab a winger from a team in the bottom half of the table who we can get for less than 5M and actually play someone that can put a ball in for fuck's sake. Those players are out there and have been mentioned in other threads a bunch of times.

i'm not alone in thinking you don't need a fucking 20M price tag to cross a ball or take a fuclin corner. I think we're the worst at both in the league...easy. It's the bread and butter of most football clubs and we're too fancy to suck it and see.

i hate to get all John68-optimistic about it, but if we had just a hint of balance we'd win the league.

We are dangerous in the air. A Spurs fan in Madrid told me "this is like the prem we were getting beaten in the air easily".
Regarding the game last saturday the funniest thing is, Sevilla used to be the best set piece team in Europe for couple of seasons but changing the coach 3 times a season they became quite crap at it.
It's all about how you work the set pieces, Valencia for example are not a physical side nor they have many tall players but they are 3rd in Spain thankfully to the goals they get from set pieces.

Some City fans have got so carried away with our money & bullshit that they think scoring from set pieces is something beneath us! That only thuggy English teams like Stoke & Everton do it! Heading the ball is for Philistines. Haha.

As you say, Real are looking quite dangerous in the air now & it's possibly something that could be exploited next season v Barca, when the team has had a bit more time with Jose's coaching methods.

Our problem with set pieces started way before the money came in...I can't remember us really attacking corners consistently since the likes of Jobson, Prior and Howey departed.

Except we probably score more goals and have more chances from set-pieces than we realise. When we were scraping the pennies together under Pearce we weren't scoring from set-pieces either. It's not a takeover thing.

Didn't say the problem started with the takeover.

Said that some of the fans are so far up their own arses since the money came that they no longer see it as a problem.
