Is this bullshit? I dont remember him scoring a hatrick?! Also.. all this about standing watching the others training for 45 minutes, I know Mancini seperates the players but its not always the next games starting 11 is it?

'I remember scoring a hat-trick but he said I should have scored more' - Emmanuel Adebayor hits out at Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini

Emmanuel Adebayor has taken a swipe at manager Roberto Mancini, claiming that the Italian was too hard on him during his time at Manchester City.

In January the former Arsenal forward went out on loan to Real Madrid until the end of the season, after experiencing a difficult time in his second year at Eastlands.

"I needed the manager to help me become a better player, but he was always criticising me," Adebayor told The News of the World.

"Mancini had no confidence in me at all. For him, whatever I did was wrong.

"I remember scoring a hat-trick but he said I should have scored more.

"I tried a few times to talk to him man to man, but he never explained why he didn't like me."

Now the Togolese hitman reveals that the former Inter tactician's treatment of his players caused him to rethink his future at City, after suffering from depressing brought on by low confidence and an uncomfortable training regime.

"Whenever Mancini asked our opinions and we gave them he still wouldn't listen. He always thought he was right," said the striker.

"Carlos [Tevez] is the main man, the captain. He is the powerful man, the talisman. And if he is complaining that means there must be something wrong.

"We have some very strong characters at the club and some very powerful players - Micah Richards, Patrick Vieira, Nigel de Jong, Vincent Kompany and Gareth Barry, they are all tough.

"But the training wasn't strict enough and not well organised.

"Sometimes we'd stop after 20 minutes and then those of us who were not in Mancini's starting 11 would be made to stand on the side and watch for the next 45 minutes.

"I had never seen anything like it before in my life, not at Monaco, not at Arsenal and not here at Real Madrid.

"At those clubs you trained whether you played or not. But at City sometimes even the players who would be on the bench for the next game didn't train.

"I started to think I was not a good footballer and the doubt was instilled. After that I was more than depressed, I was gone.

"Whenever I came to training I was in a bad mood, I didn't want to train. My confidence was hit hard.

"At City I didn't exist. Mancini didn't talk to me and people had forgotten about me."

Adebayor was widely believed to have been taken to the Bernabeu as a temporary replacement for the injured Gonzalo Higuain, but has since won the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid under the guidance of coach Jose Mourinho.

Didn't he bag a hat-trick at home against Poznan?

I wonder what Dougie's take is on the training stuff?

Ade's take seems reasonable and he doesn't go over the top about what happened, just seems to tell it from his perspective. It does however show how single minded Mancini is and if he doesn't like someone, he doesn't even talk to them.

But he wasn't was he? IF he put the effort in every game then yes he probably would be ahead at the moment but half the time he didn't turn up. He strolled round looking disinterested and generally pissing a lot of fans off

No different to what he did at Arsenal

I think at the start it wasn't that well organised and I think I said that fairly early when I compared the training regimes but that has changed a lot over time and now it is very clearly well planned and organised. As for strict enough he might have a point as well.It all depends what he means by not strict enough.I am continually surprised at how the players seem to be slow and maybe even late coming out.100% no urgency in that aspect but could he be pointing the finger at some he thinks don't train hard enough? There were a few and there maybe times where an individual could work a little harder but I would say that isn't a problem within the squad.

The issue of stopping and what happens to those not in the 11 is true to a point but he is exagerating a little.I have reported many times that Mancini will take an 11 to work with on attacking/defending or whatever and when that happens the rest don't do much more than play keep ball circle or some sort of fitness exercise. That's most of the time but there have been occassions where those not involved have watched. Not often, not recently.

What's wrong with watching? If you're not daft, you still can learn sth.

Thanks for taking the time Doug, and from what you say he isn't that far off, although probably embellished a little; which does actually surprise me. I suppose most of it was to do with the change over of training regimes as well, which would've had an impact until, like you say, things settled down.

Still, it's good to hear the other side of the story, at least it gives us chance to understand the situation better. I wonder if he'll be back ;-)

he is a really good player adebayor. sometimes lazy but his finishing is phenomenal. it's annoying that someone like him who so obviously enjoyed playing for city when he first came is being frozen out.

He should have been used more and better.
Like Shauny should have been too.

I want him back next season, if Tevez goes that will be much of Adebayors problems gone.

As with Balo and Dzeko, he will thrive if we play with wingers, and is probably the best finisher at the club

The problem I had with Ade, was that he always ventured wide when he clearly he's the most effective in the penalty area. What point does he have, if he's the only forward player we have, due to Tevez running all over the pitch and he's standing next to the sideline? He should be centre forward, not a wide forward. He should hold up the play, so that Tevez and co can go storming in so we can start our attack.

Other than that though, I liked him. He seemed to enjoy playing and he was always smiling... and offside. However, I liked him, even if he was lethargic at times. At Real he's again showing he can score the goals. Clearly he's a good player, but his problem was that he was often found wide, instead of playing through the centre.

Never felt like one of us to be honest. I felt like we signed him just because we could. Maybe his signing was surrounded by others that took the shine off it, but I've never really had much affection for Adebayor.

I'm not doubting his record or skill, I just don't get a positive feeling about him.
