Sorry if its been covered!
I'm presuming he'll be finished with us at the end of this season, as a player at least. Anyway I think hes been a great signing for us. A leader a name and an example to the younger players. Probably one of the most important signings of recent times. Well done City and thanks Patrick!

I'd get his as a coach.
A very respected footballer.

Much derided for being a senile old fucler but I think on balance of play he's been a positive for me, let's face it against spuds on Tuesday after he came on we stared to shape up a bit more than we had for the previous hour or so.

It was absolutely laughable how much opposition his "signing" got. I felt it was good thing to get him on board and I still do. He came for free and helped to solidify team on lot of occasions from the bench. I wouldn't go as far as call him one of the most important signings but he was definitely good.
I got loads of stick for standing up for him numerous times. Once again it turns out I was right.

You get loads of stick because of comments like your last paragraph :)
Anyway I was also one who was up for it (I didn't get as much stick as my learned friend here) because of the influence and experience he brings to the dressing room, you really cannot put a price on these things

At times it's been such a shame to see grand old Pat in the middle of the park watching the games pass him by only for me to be stood there wishing we had signed him in his peak, but he has scored a few goals so i guess he's been alright.
Better NOT get a new deal mind.

Exactly Antti you massive bellend....you get abused precisely because of the nonsense like that you (and the Georgian "Genius" for that matter) are prone to come out with
You were right about Vieira, but you weren't alone in that, there was a small minority who saw the sense in it.
However on Philip Lahm you are so so so wrong, he's a triffic player

Obviously Eion was wrong in another topic. I can still get people going with best of them.

Overall probably just a positive rather than a negative. We will never know the real value of him behind the scenes with his influence on the team and some individuals especially. No doubt there have been games where he was found really wanting but some others where we could afford his total lack of pace to come in and do a job to rest the legs of other players.
I actually thought the Spurs game was a classic case of where some went OTT about Vieira. His introduction was clearly very important in changing the game around when it was slipping. But it was the introduction of a player in that role which was the significance and not that it was PV.Any decent player coming on in that role would probably have done the same because it meant AJ went off ,Milner shifted his position a bit and Yaya was released to become a threat further forward.

been happy with vieira as a signing ... when we have had the needed players, he has not started ... but when he has come on he has gone about his job in a professional way. I have no issues whatsoever. Like doug says, we can't know how much he influences behind the scenes, but as a living legend i'm sure he commands quite a lot of respect from the lads.
would love to have him stick around as a coach, I think that would be fantastic.

That's the thing. My only real weakness is that I'm never wrong.

Think it depends on why you think he was signed as to how successful you percieve him to be.
Last season when he was signed we were looking to push up the table to a champions league spot. Our biggest weakness was in central midfield. As a pair de Jong and Barry looked a bit one paced and lacking in dynamism and creativity. Kompany had been moved back to central defence depriving us of support Johnson as usual was injured and Ireland was utterly failing to come anywhere close to his performances of the previous season. If Vieira was menat to help us with a push to the champions league and bolster the midfield at this stage frankly he was a failure. He was injured/ unfit for a significant part of the season and when he played he frequently looked short of pace and dynamism. The only match I recall him starting and playing well in was at the end of the season against a lacklustre Villa by which time our challenge was finished.
If he was brought over to give experience and help with some of the younger players he may well have been a success. Judging by the accolades when he scores he is very popular with the other players . Stories of Micah being helped by him are warming. He has also played a useful role in allowing other midfielders to rest in the less demanding Europa cup matches and had the odd decent cameo as a substitute in the premiership this season.
Personally I thank him for what he has done he has always looked and behaved in a dignified manner and spoken positively about the club but in in the second half of last season we really needed more support to the midfield than Vieira was able to provide.

Spot on.. oh here's a trumpet sat next to me... may as well blow it. ;) I watched the game with a Spurs fan and said about 5 mins before PV came on that we were losing the midfield and needed an extra body in there and it would probs be PV for AJ ha ha.
PV main role and value is his presence and demeanour, playing or not. We should keep hold of that if possible.

Amazing how many players are able to sit in our midfield doing very little and get praised for it.

I've always admired Vieira when he was younger but for me saying he's been one of our most important signings is risible in the extream imo. I'd certainly sign him up quicksticks as a coach and member of the backroom team but as a player (on the whole) he's simply taken up a squad place imo
