Nevermind keeping him on as a coach etc just a poll to see who wants to see him in the 25 next season

Funny, unlike many I wanted him in the first place. Right now I feel another season would be one step too far.

I still think we can get one more season out of him.

Disagree, I think he brings something else to the team. And if he leaves it will be difficult to find a replacement IMO.

Definitely. Much better bringing him on/in than some untried youngster at a vital point in the match. Of course if we sign 6 world-class midfielders, maybe not.
But that aint gonna happen!

Deffo for me. He's a great asset to have on the bench when we need to close a game down.

I've put a yes, but that is on the basis that we don't replace him with another old, wise head ie, Gattuso / Pirlo summat like that.

I'd keep him so long as he NEVER starts a game against any half decent team, as he's fucking useless & a liability when he does & has cost us this season & last. As an occasional sub or a fill in; excellent.

As a player it's a no from me..but if we can keep him as a coach it would be brilliant

As things stand, assuming that our 25 man squad this season loses the following players; Bridge, Logan, M Johnson, Jo.
We have four senior spots left vacant.
However, I think that the provisional list below would include all 8 necessary "homegrown players" in that 21 man senior roster (by my reckoning at least Hart, Taylor, Richards, Lescott, Barry, Milner, A Johnson and SWP qualify as homegrown per the definitions....I can't remember whether Shay does due to him starting out at Celtic (?)
The big plus is that Mario is still eligible as U21 so he essentially frees up a senior place and I'd be happy to "waste" this to a certain extent on Vieira personally, I like the influence he brings amongst the group.
So, if we assume that the above logic holds we should be in for at least 4 new players in the summer (two defenders and two midfielders (we can still have four strikers if we replace Jo's forward position with a midfielder due to Mario).....five if we also include a like for like coming in for Carlos, six if we also sell Adebayor and replace.
Either way, exciting stuff and lots of potential to improve our squad whilst also accomodating Grandpa Pat
- Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.
- Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"
- Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.

U21 an Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences. For the 2011/12 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1990

Keep him. When he came on at Spurs, it showed how much influence he can have. He's also picking up a few hattricks. He won't be able to play full matches, but he's good as a sub for in the second half.

I've always thought he was a waste of time, but I've warmed to him recently. However he is commanding big money and with this FFP bollox maybe those wages should be spent on somebody more useful.
Does seem to be a good influence though.

Pretty sure he is on a basic topped up with a 'Pay for Play' deal. Paddy failed the medical which meant the deal was restructured.
I remember the angst when he initially signed and again during the summer which I never quite understood. As a positive influence and example to others in the squad it was a no brainer. Popular with the players and he can be a calming factor when brought on.
Another year is a tentative yes and solely because I think he could play a role when it comes to CL games. I also think starting games is pretty much out of the question. If CL wasn't a factor I would say no as Paddy has served his purpose.

I'd give him another year even if it is only to come on for the last 15 mins of key games to close a game out he is calm under pressure never panics and rarely gives the ball away or plays someone into trouble other players can learn from having this guy around, then i'd give him a coaching role

I think he himself has admitted this would be his final season so I voted no, although he has been far better than I thought he would be this season.

An example to any young professional and several not so young. His legs are not what they used to be but his brain can be of immense value in the development of our players, much like Benarbia was to SWP if any of you listened to the KK interview on GMR last week. We have got quite a young squad, remember. So a yes from me as long as he doesn't expect to be starting matches and the salary is right.
This is, of course, assuming he wants to stay. He might not.

Absolutely not.
The players like having him around, but he still can be as a coach.
Sometimes when he's come on he hasn't fucked up and that's good going for how slow he is, but starting him showed exactly why his career at the top is over.

Assuming he'll accept reasonable wages, it's an absolute yes for me. If you've ever seen Paddy give an interview, it's easy to see that he's smart and a natural leader. And, notwithstanding that stupid penalty he conceded early in the season, he hasn't done too much wrong on the pitch.
