Training Monday 16/5

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Mon May 16, 2011 4:02 pm

I managed to get there but only for a short stop so here's my old mate Neil's post from BMoon,

Afternoon all
Popped down to Carrington today to see who was around after the weekend's exploits.Nice to see all the squad out in some shape except for MJ, Boateng was being put through a fairly rigorous session in his rehab.

There has been a moment which might be blown out of all proportion with Mario, he was out at the normal time with the rest of the group but didn't start in the initial jog, Mancini went over and spoke to him, Mario was pointing towards his knee, the problem is that all Italians like to speak with there hands and the gesturing was a little expressive, i think Mancini thought he might have been kidding on or maybe he wasn't aware of the problem. Mario was then told to go and try to work with one of the fitness coaches but every time he tried to jog he couldn't, the paps were having a field day, click, click, absolutely nothing in it apart from obviously an injury concern for Mario.

It was a very light session today, with the bulk of the team from Saturday involved in some games, Tevez today was as happy and relaxed as i've ever seen him, why I don't know. NDJ and Micah leading the joviality but the whole group was buzzing, we gave them a round of applause which they acknowleged.

Talking to Kidd and Ivan, they have been given a new focus and a massive chance of getting third place, even second isn't quite out of reach yet although we'll need some serious goals scored. The worry for the management was the old term "after the lords mayors show" but after Arsenal's slip-up they are totally focused on the next two games.

The Saturday team sat out the last session with the reserves taking part in quite a robust match session on a 3/4 size pitch.

No problems to report from what I could make out. They were buzzing though.

NMT

Not a lot to add to that but Carlos was as happy as I have ever seen him by a distance. Laughing a lot, deliberately fouling people ( in a nice funny way) and generally messing.Lescott too was in a great mood but generally there was a lot of fun out there today. I reckon Vinnie and Nigel especially will get the focus right for tomorrow.

Also saw Assulin out doing some work, so lets hope with Boateng ( if he stays) he will be fit for a full pre season.Mario's injury I am sure wasn't bad but enough to stop him taking part in anything too serious.

MJ was finished as a factor at City a long time ago Im afraid.

Name any player in top flight history who misses 2 years plus and ever comes back to anything like the top level. Wish him well but his City ship unfortunately sailed a long time ago and he was sadly stuck in the treatment room.

Sadly he did.Just shows how quickly he can put on a little if that showing is right as he looked as though he had got himself proeprly fit a month or so back.

I almost forgot but I am sure I saw Vlad Weiss training with the EDS today. Maybe back next season?

Agree 100% mate, but on the plus side at least Carlos seems to be happy.

That's some serious optimism, 6 points and 16 goals.

That is some optimism... have Chelsea ever recently been beaten by 5 goals?
high scores have been known at the of a seasons matches... and although i can see Chelsea getting beat at Everton maybe even 3-0.. and the idea that City are due to thrash someone with all our chances going in.. it would need a 6-0 and 8-0 to overtake Chelsea! I would be massively proud and happy if we just won the games and landed 71pts. What an achievement in a tough season! Rags could easily go down to Blackpool throwing the kitchen sink around, and so 71pts would see us 3rd only on goal diff and just 6 off the top. I would rate that as having seriously challenged over the course and defo puts us in the category of arrived whatever way you look at it. FA Cup Winners to boot :)

C'mon Vinny and the lads... see this one through and start by blasting Stoke off the park.
