Platinum/Superbia Nonsense

forgive me if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but i've seen lots about the new prices but nothing pointing out the horrendous nature of this (thin end of the wedge) scheme. this superbia/platinum bollocks really worries me. if we were to be successful for 5 years or so - there'll come a day when the only people at away games are people that can afford to pay way over the odds (and they won't generally be the same people that go now in my experience). the loyalty points scheme should have stayed exactly as it is - rewarding loyalty not an ability to pay far more than the going rate.

it fucking stinks imho, and personally i suggest we make it loud and clear to the club that it's out of order.

and if you disagree, just consider that when we get that away fa cup game at torquay, and you've barely missed an away day in 10/20/30 years or whatever, and you can afford the ticket price but not £2,500 (currently) up front.....

you can't have a ticket - bobby bigbollox that just switched his allegiance from chelsea is going.

Sorry to bump - as you gathered, i feel really strongly about this. Does no-one else have anything to say or shall i shut me mouth and accept that you can buy loyalty at the all-new city....?

I totally agree with you mate. I can see why the club wants to do it - it gives them higher revenue, and it gives high paying customers easier access to the most popular games. To be bale to able to charge premium prices, you need to be able to supply a premium product. I just don't like it and think it could have been done another way.
I would even have thought it more "fair" to keep the current loyalty point system, but reserving say 2-5% of the tickets for the most popular games for high paying customers. I.E. the bulk of the tickets goes to the loyal supporters, whereas the a small percentage goes to new, bandwagon supporters, paying through their nose.

I think the new system is cool. If I ever wanted, I could simply buy myself as much loyalty points as I want. It's not my fault some people are so poor they can't afford Skoda Superbia or Manchester City Platinum scheme.

And what does loyalty mean anyway? Word for some losers who got nothing else to show for in their lives.

Any price rises can be laid firmly at the door of Mr Platini. Before his nonsense rules the Sheik was talking about keeping prices for the people etc. Now we are forced to maximise revenues wherever possible.

Agree with that.

I do completely get where you are coming from Arjan but in reality, from my perspective, the club have done and continue to do everything they can to make life better for the fans and to enhance the enjoyment for all of supporting City.

They have us at the point where we have had the most successful season (by some degree) of my lifetime and that hasn't come free. If it weren't for this FFP bullshit I firmly believe that they would not try to milk the fans. I am absolutely convinced that they do not want ANY of the type of negative press that (say) Malcolm Glazer has got for raping United and its fans....it is totally contrary to what they want to achieve via the City investment. However, due to FFP they HAVE to balance the books in some way. They are clearly working hard to push up commercial/sponsorship revenue as aggressively as possible but it is inevitable that the prices to watch City would have to take some of the burden.

I know I'm in the fortunate position where I can look at the price increases and think "that's not bad" and that this doesn't apply for everyone but in real terms this is not an attempt to exploit the fans IMO, even if it does impact on each matchgoer's pocket

it's not the price increases that have got me so het up, and i understand they have to balance the books.

But the ability to "buy" loyalty - paying to jump the queue, is undisguised profiteering, and hugely unfair on those who've spent thousands of pounds and years of their lives showing the loyalty that any cunt can now rock up and stick on their company credit card.

i'm not naive - i know how supply and demand works, but as has been demonstrated many many times before, football is no ordinary business.

the club have been quietly doing this for years with the "executive" away travel club - guaranteed match ticket as long as you don't mind paying a hundred quid for a shit meal at the linton travel tavern, but they've kept it limited and genuine fans have no problem getting tickets.

The superbia thing is outrageous - it's not even value for money for christssakes - you're paying way over the face value to be able to say fuck you to s/t holders of years standing.

and the platinum thing is basically a fifty quid increase in ticket price - pretending that it's optional whilst knowing full well that the vast majority will be scared of what might happen if they don't cough up.

the whole thing is simply unjustifiable - it would have been better if they'd been honest, told us why prices were going up, and not explicitly told us that loyalty isn't showing up at games for decades - it's the size of your pocket.

grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I get where you're coming from and I totally understand what is annoying you.

However, I have this for you. I (like quite a few others on here who actually live in the UK am sure) could afford to get the Superbia thing. But, would I do so if I were at home and had a SC. Frankly, no.

I'd put good money on the fact that there won't be much take up on the Superbia membership mainly due to the fact that a lot of the people who could afford that membership simply can't get to a lot of away games. I know that, due to work, getting to any evening midweek game would be totally out of the question, not even Liverpool or Blackburn would be very feasible. Equally, weekends.....yeah I'd go to the odd away game but I've got other stuff to do at the weekend (often meaning work) and although I can usually manage to get free for the 3-5 hours for a home game, I just cant sacrifice a whole day travelling there and back.

My bind is work but others (who could happily afford it) it would be family or something else.

It does stink in a way but, will it stop proper home and away fans getting tickets for away games etc....not really IMO.

The 50 quid thing I agree should have just been a non-optional price rise....but then again people would have been unhappy at that too.

Totally understand why you're outraged but I just think the club couldn't really have won whatever they'd done

I get the point about the platinum, it's bollocks. I will have to pay the extra £50 and i will have to join the cup schemes (going off this years shinanigans) if i expect to get tickets to any big away/cup game. It's eiter that or i can go fuck myself basically.

Not much of a choice atall and it makes me think back to the days of kiki musampa and the rest of the wank i have watched since we moved to CoMS and wonder why the fuck i bothered turning up atall.

But i thought the superia was only being offered to the people who have the most loyalty points not just any rich tool.

I'm mostly in agreement with you.
Platinum means that £50 gives you access to an additional (up to) 790 loyalty points. That will appeal either to people who just missed out on cup tickets or got a crap seat. It is the fear factor as we enter an era of more great nights that we don't want to miss out on, and it will get worse each year as "traditional" fans get caught and passed.
On the Exec stuff you're partly right: you get an away ticket for a big feed/price. I've done that (home and away) but gave it up, because you don't get any loyalty points for any of it. So that section of people are all about money, but don't get any preferential treatment except for the exec tickets (and the bastards add VAT). In fact they are competing for a much smaller number of tickets, and once exec is full, they prolly wont have the loyalty points to "downgrade"
Superbia is just nuts. There will be very few people who can commit to getting to (and paying for) maybe 60 or more games. Isn't this just a touts charter?
I've been filling in Customer Surveys all season but can't remember the box that said "how do you think we could cause ill will between fans let the Glory Hunters take over the stands?"
I don't think it's desperate, but if this is the future, then the composition of the crowd will change

At £2500 a pop you wont find too many Superbia takers. The three guys I know who've been offered it arent taking it up!

The Platinum prices do seem like for £50 they are asking you to but extra loyalty points, but when you look at the price of the tickets themselves, they are more than competitive considering the money that has been thrown into the playing staff, the facilities, and the fact that we are now a top 4 club with potentially Champions Lge footy on offer.

Look at it from the other side of the coin - the Gold prices mean we still offer a very priced season ticket for those that want them too. The Value Gold ticket at £260 was being lauded on FiveLive yesterday and remians an unbelieveable deal.

I agree there are some negatives to it Arjan - my gripe is that my loyalty points from 1978 - 2003 (season ticket every year) are not recognised anywhere as they were scrubbed when we moved into COMS!!

nah mate, i'm sure if you ring up and tell them you want to give them £2,500 you'll soon find you've been "invited" to join.

i might even test that theory....

I disagree with this as well. It is like going to Thorpe Park, queueing up for the Colossus, having to wait for those twats who bought fast tickets so they can skip half the queue, whilst everybody else is waiting.

It would be fair, if the avereage Joe wouldn't be affected. Say, once the tickets are sold, they realise 300 places are still available and then would go to the highest bidder.

However, the "tuna on toast" eaters we see at the swamp each week probably think it is fair. They were born with silver spoons in their mouths after all.

The way the tickets are being dished out and the way us 'fans' are now being treated as 'members' is a bit worrying and taking some time to digest on my part.

It seems that at Manchester City you can now buy 'loyalty'. Not really in keeping with the spirit of the club.

Is it Platini's fault? No. The FFP rules require you to balance your books, no more. This scheme is City's idea, Platini is innocent.
