MR MANCINI?????

Postby Ruthless » Tue May 17, 2011 10:12 pm

Ok mid season plenty of people were calling for his head, anyone prepared to eat there words? he did what he could with the resources available at the time, he didnt buy for the sake he was taking us to the next level and selecting players for that task that possibly could then make the step up as they matured, now the door has opened to the very top level and very top players, first full season FA cup, champions league and possible 3rd place Premiership finish lets see what next season brings I believe we have one of the top managers in the world steering our ship to the promised land

I reckon there's a chance this could be merged with the "Sir Roberto" thread, no?

Listen, I don't think anyone's stupid enough to want him gone now. A few hairy and a few extremely dull moments in the season, but this mentality should now see us play with much more verve from the off next season.

I'm excited as fuck and I'm not one bit ashamed to say I was very concerned not so long ago.

Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing is, there are lots of good managers in world football, but most just don't get the time they deserve. Fortunately for us we have an excellent chairman who is willing to back Mancini and understand that these things don't happen in a heartbeat. This team is growing with every passing month, and it's actually startling when you think of the level of football we play now compared to a couple of years ago. I love it - its almost Barca-esque in its probing manner. Very continental, but when its done well its unplayable.

wanted him out for a lot of the season, but ultimately, he's shut me up. However, he's won me over more for the football than actually reaching 4th and winning the cup. I still think we could have had a real go for the top, but fell away badly post xmas, but we've really got something to build on.

Bizarrely, having wanted him out, I'm now concerned it might happen. With his dad still ill and Lombardo's comments, I could see him back in Italy in the summer, possibly at Juve.

Probably the best time to win the cup and finish in the top four.

He's definitely going in the right direction, the team is strong and is learning to do what it takes to win games, we're still a way off. I never wanted him out and I'm happy with the job he's doing but that doesn't mean that I don't have criticisms.

We're going to need to address our away record if we're going to continue to progress, actually if we even want to stay still we'll probably have to do something. The away win at Blackburn came at a crucial time to boost confidence, but it was rare moment of light (away). We could well find ourselves chasing a higher total than 71 points next year and the CL will test the squad.

One thing that has impressed me in recent weeks is a real change in the attitude of the team. Previously, I would have expected us to crack, I thought we'd have been beaten by Spurs but would have clinched 4th later, I thought that we would have mentally given up after winning the final, even with 3rd potentially on offer (though Arsenal's timing couldn't have been better for us).

There's a much stronger winning mentality, one that's almost unrecognisable from the one that would relax whenever we reached 40 points, but it's still one that needed Spurs to slip up, one that still fell at the horse of Everton away (tossing away a lead). It may take time before we've fully exorcised those demons but winning the Cup has gone a long way towards that. It's only almost unrecognisable though. An away win at Bolton on the last day of the season would go a very long way towards maintaining that momentum, it's quietly become one of the most important games of the season, because it brings a small prize but demands that we keep going for one more week when for many the season is already over, mentally.

There's a lot to be excited about for next season, one of the strange ones being that we can be excited without needing signings. We don't need to go out and spend big, we probably shouldn't for a while.

I have been one of his biggest critics since he took over, but those criticisms were well founded in my opinion. He sent his teams out to play boring, defensive football especially against the top 4 teams in matches where I felt we were capable of winning. In addition to that he made some baffling substitutions over the course of the season and picked players he had signed over better players that were already at the club.

However in the last few weeks he has got them playing as a team and has shown the fans that we can win games without Tevez. He has won us our first trophy in 35 years for which I will be eternally grateful and has also steered us towards 3rd place in the Premiership (barring an almighty cock up at Bolton, which I just don't see happening) with a record top flight points total for the club.

My only criticism is that at times this season we haven't played with a high enough tempo, energy or intensity as pointed out in this thread viewtopic.php?f=119&t=38770#p305595.

I would like to think that with his job on the line, Mancini has sacrificed beautiful football for a more pragmatic approach that has got us where we are today but ulltimately unable to maintain a serious title challenge against what has been an inferior top 4 this season and that

Hopefully these shackles will be off next season we will see the football some of us had hoped for. Until then WELL DONE MANCINI!

People don't like admitting they were stupid and wrong.

If this was the 1990's, everyone would be saying in the pub how they were behind him all the time and never doubted him, post millenium and with internet football forums it is all recorded so instead of them lieing they now tell you that all they ever wanted was the best for the club and are adamant they were right at the time.

Isn't that right lads ;-)

We WERE right at the time.

And we are fucking SICK TO DEATH of having to explain that he now has the team playing in PRECISELY the way we wanted it played then and he now has OUR FULL BACKING.

Now go fuck yourself!

It's just unfathomable that in the best week in my, and many blues' living memory, you would occupy so much time and emotion coming into threads, or picking out ones from months ago to go on this relentless "told you so" parade. Why do you care what opinions people held, or even hold now? City's success is the priority. We've been hugely successful- why can't you enjoy it without having to criticise others? Don't you think they want to savour this past week without having their prior motives questioned and crossexamined?

I know you're a blue because I've seen you at the ground, and you're obviously very passionate, but there's a way to channel that passion and baiting other City fans isn't the way to go about it, surely.

See while I agree that when you have right man in charge you need to show patience, I disagree with people who say that we need to give time for any old fool.

It's a well known fact that I was one of the people who campaigned for Mancini for few years before we appointed him(yes, I do feel certain degree of smugness about it now.....deal with it). I've also been one of his biggest supporters here. I thought he was THE man for us. But Mancini had excellent resumé having been success and winning stuff in many clubs before us. He had done it all before and was still relatively young + he lacks CL which I think will be his motivation. BUT if you don't buy into him being the man then I don't see why people should just go and say "time will make him good".

One of the most important things what Mancini has done, what has saved his job and made him cemented for the job for a good while, he DELIVERED. Owners put targets in front of him and he reached them. Both in his first half a season and then in his first full season. But if he wasn't giving owners any return or showing supporters that he can do it then why just hang on to him in desperate hope it will all turn out well.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
