City entertains 75,000 corporate hospitality guests a season.

If I was to be overly critical, I would have to say that 3/4000 guests a game is fucking bollocks. Yet again, as in every single game this season with the exception of the rags and Chelsea, there were acres of empty seats on both sides of the half way line, and half of the players own the boxes now which are rarely if ever used.

At the Reading quarter final, I counted 2/3 boxes unoccupied, and against Kiev it was more like 7/10.

City have a lot to do to get these people in, and whilst quirks like this are novel, the fundamental issue is that we simply are not an attraction for corporate hospitality, yet have far too many seats set aside for it at the moment.

Ha - I know the bloke they interview in that article - justice ellis. He used to do marketing for XFM and i met him a few times. Really nice guy. No idea he'd end up in football though.

That's some serious counting mate. Distinguishing 7 out of 10 from 6.67 out of 10!! :-)

I'm sure they'll flog a few more next season as the juggernaut gathers pace.

At first I was thinking WTF, this is nuts, but on reflection I can see where they're going with this, and I have to say it has potential.

It's not doing up all the boxes like this, it's about personalising boxes to various brands. So Heineken can have one that fits with their corporate identity. When they want to do entertaining, they end up with something amazing and perfect for their message. Harvey Nichols (or whoever) can do the exact same thing. They can have a box that showcases their brand and again is perfect for their junketers, beauty treatments at the game and whatever.

Everyone knows that boxes aren't really for fans, I'm all for initiatives that fund the club through boxes rather than say, ticket prices. My recollection of the last set of accounts I saw was that corporate seat/box/etc. sales accounted for about the same amount of money as the entire season ticket revenue. This sort of thing will keep the boxes busier more often because of the way they'll be a bigger investment and of more direct use to the companies involved, if they go choose to go down that road.

In cases where boxes are going to be empty a lot I've always been a fan of the idea of allowing fans to upgrade their seats, whether for manageable amounts of money for a special occasion or as a prize via a draw.
