Premiership footballer sues twitter over super injunction

The footballer – who was granted a privacy injunction over his adulterous affair with Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas – was among those named on the social media site earlier this month.
His name has already been the subject of intense speculation on the internet and has been published in several countries.
His groundbreaking legal action came on the same day that top judges sought to strengthen privacy laws and even threatened to stop MPs and Lords discussing gagging orders in Parliament.
The married Premier League football star is suing Twitter
The footballer’s action will test if judges determined to censor British newspapers can also gag the electronic media and those who post illicit information on them.
It also raises the question of whether Twitter, which is based in San Francisco and has no base in the UK, can be brought to heel by the British courts.

Just thought it was amusing how him attempting to sue twitter will confirm the rumours.
If it wasn't that particular footballer who the rumours are about then why would the footballer be suing Twitter for saying it was Giggs?
Anyone know of any decent Blackpool forums and see if they are planning on having any chants that might be heard on the tv coverage?
wonder who he'll try and sue for that one?

I think the moral of the story is, if you want to keep something quiet don't get a Super Injunction!

The absolute best bit of the super-injunction and suing twitter is that now he has ensured every single person in the world now knows his identity - ffs my mum and Dad (in their 70's) called me today to ask me did I know this footballer is Giggs, lol!

So let me get this straight....
A public figure sticks his dick in someone who is not his wife.
The press find out about it.
'Super' injunction put in place to ban any from reporting on it.
Does anyone else think this sounds more like China than England? The press would laugh at Giggs over here and then tear his life apart for the next 3 weeks for the impunity.

Was listening to some legal eagles discussing this on the radio last night. One opinion is that Sheffields, the legal firm acting for the footballer have very little chance of success against twitter and it could grag on and become very costly for him.
It is a British judgement and there is a good chance that it is not effective in the USA, where Twitter are a registered company.
Apparently, twitter have been bombarded by legal wrangles and have always rigourously defended themselves, even against the American government. The opinion seemed to suggest a long and costly case with no chance of success.

Any player involved would bankrupt himself if he took on twitter and lost.
The player's club should look after their own and put all their financial resources at this player's disposal. And then lose the case, which clearly they will. Ha ha.
