We bought the cup and joint second

Lots of accusations that we bought the league and joint second....

how do you feel about that? has any team ever won the PL that didn't "buy" it?

what is the difference between what we've done and the wealthy local benefactor that ran practically every club in the 80's and before?

is it old money against nouveau riche?

does anyone remember which team was behind the rule changes in 1989 that ensured that the away team no longer got a cut of the gate?

is it wrong to slag off wigan when we "bought" our position too?

why is the alphabet in that order?

When two aeroplanes almost collide why do they call it a near miss??

Just reading Mark Radcliffe's new book - won't bore you with details
He talks about the song Blue Moon by the Marcels from 1961, he then goes on to make references to the song and City, I qoute
"I assume the club has now bought the rights to the song. We appear to be in the process of buying pretty much everything else including, one hopes, the Premier League title. Hey don't blame us. We didn't put it up for sale"

The best thing we bought was time, now we can actually keep a manager and build a real team spirit

Will they be able to claim the tax back on it? May be we could sell it to Real Madrid next year for a profit.

I'm with Carl and Gillie on this...except....I don't agree with buying the rights to Blue moon. We should simply buy the real moon and then buy a firm of decorators to paint it for blue us...except for away games when it could be done out in red and black stripes.
Maybe in a few years when we are totally dominating football at all levels, we could buy a whole galaxy and paint it blue.

The problem with the rags is that they have spent the last 20 odd years taking the piss, being arrogant and believing that they have some divine right to do whatever they wanted. The sad bastards actually do think that this is all wrong and shouldn't be happening. They can't get their tiny heads round the fact that City are chasing at their arses and biting chunks ut of it. They are at a loss when they have to handle the fact that not only did we win the Cup but took them out on the way, fucking up the treble they thought they had a right to win.

Fuck em

It's kind of point of professional football that players are bought and sold and Clubs are run like businesses.

Also all the talk of us having a sugar daddy makes me laugh. There were rich benefactors already in 19th century.

If people want to blame someone for the way things are then blame Blackburn Olympic and Preston North End. Since Blackburn Olympic stuffed Old Etonians the game has been mostly about the money.

This is the list of champions since I can remember stuff. I challenge anyone to tell me one of these who hasn't 'bought'success, or a key element of it. Just off the top of my head where did Alex Stepney come from again? And Lee/Bell/Summerbee/Book? And Sniffer Clarke? And Alan Ball? And any number of big signings for Liverpool, Notts Forest, Villa, Everton and Arsenal? And as for the holier-than-though Arsenal, look at all their big signings in the 90s before Wenger went completely potty. And the biggest buyers of them all of course, until all the transfer money went to the Glazers - Scum!

from that list there are only really 2 clubs who did not spend enormous amounts of money to win the league - they are city in 68 & villa in 81 . all the others regularly broke british transfer records to achieve their aims (including brian clough who despite his "charisma" could not have done it without spending huge amounts on players ) . i am struggling to think of anyone who has won the FA cup in recent times without spending big (even portsmouth spent millions before harry jumped ship ) a lot of experts predicted city would win nothing with mancini and are now looking like the complete twunts that they are - and there only defence is that we have spent millions to do it .

I would've put City in the spending category tbh. At the time we laid out a few quid, peanuts though it was a few years later. And it's fair to say we wouldn't have won it without the players we bought - Bell, Lee. Summerbee, Coleman.

Villa in 81, off the top of my head bought Mortimer and Withe at least, pretty key players.
