Where do these theiving conniving cunts get off!! Its the fucking stadiums name for christ's sake

although the stadium will be referred to as "Fußball-Arena München" for the match as UEFA does not recognise sponsorship by companies that are not among its partner organisations.

I understand where you're coming from completely, but at least we're getting a share of that Champs League money now! :-)

We are, but we won't get any less if we call the stadium by its proper name. UEFA have just totally made up a name for a stadium because they can't make money off it, every time I read something new about UEFA or FIFA it just takes things to a new realm of stupidity

Ultimately, the construction costs of the fantastic stadium they want to hold their showpiece final in, will over time be largely paid for by the naming rights. So if they are happy to play there, they should be happy to play at the ALLIANZ arena, not some ficitious name invented by UEFA

But when FIFA/UEFA sign the sponsorship deals for tournaments such as the World Cup or Champions League, they do so on the condition that no other companies will be able to advertise apart from the main sponsorship group of companies. Companies like Ford and Heineken know that it is only them who will have their brands displayed during matches and so are willing to pay higher amounts of money to FIFA/UEFA for that privilege. If they signed up to the be the main sponsors of the tournament but other brands would be displayed as well, they wouldn't pay the high amounts they currently do and would expect to pay less. Therefore, the clubs would earn less money.

True or not???....At the time of the St Petersburg v Rangers EuFA Cup final at CoMS, I was told that the Mercedes garage next to our stadium had been asked by EuFA if they would cover up their signage because the final had been sponsored by Ford. UeFA were told to fucl off.

I have no idea if that's true or not but that seems like it's taking it one step too, particularly as the Mercedes garage wouldn't have been shown on TV.

The only reason I can think of if that's true, is that the garage is on land owned by City/the council and the sponsorship agreement UEFA has says the only brands that can be advertised before, during and after a match in/around the ground are the main UEFA group of sponsors. It does sound extreme, but that is one of the ways UEFA can charge such high sponsorship rates to companies.

I know what you mean, but you can't simply rename a stadium because your sponsors dont like the name, they will want to change the name of half the teams in holland next, starting with PSV Eindhoven because Phillips make TVs and clash with Sony.

It's like censorship and re-writing history - and like I said, if it weren't for Allianz, the whole shebang probably wouldnt be there in its present form in the first place - if Allianz have funded a ground that UEFA want to use, then UEFA should have to swallow the fact.......it wouldnt surprise me if they went and pitched Allianz for a backhander, and they told them to get fucked because everyone will refer to it as the Allianz Arena anyway.

Do they charge Etihad next year for appearing on our shirts? Do they fuck, and the stadium issue is exactly the same.

Its the sheer fucking cheek of these bastards that gets me, that they think they can remove geographical references and place names to suit their agenda.

And don't even start me on why we are not allowed beer in the ground in the UK (because its not amstel, not because its a UK ban)

I agree, it is extremely cheeky and is the typical UEFA/FIFA thing to do. Also, I'm sure they've had discussions on shirt sponsors too!

You think that's bad?

I know of a City forum that won't even allow you to type the name of the city where the final is being held!!

Don't know about that, but the article below outlines pretty clearly where FIFA's priorities lie...

That`s cos they`re classy KK and have class. We have to have class even though the sport is working class in it`s roots. Do they allow swearing or do they have songs with "cad" and "bounder" in.

Bluemoon? As ridiculous as censoring the word 'United'.

A sponsorship is only effective when the branding of the experience/event seems natural and unforced. You should be able to see yourself incorporating that brand into your related activities. The company behind the brand should be personable and understanding to your life. By doing things that call direct attention to how forced this sponsorship is, UEFA is making the sponsorships they sell less valuable. Blatantly changing the name of a stadium, because of a competing brand, makes UEFA's sponsors appear to be imposing their message upon people rather than being part of a natural association.

Plus anytime someone has to remember "Fußball-Arena München", they'll think about the reason for the stupid name change and blame UEFA and their sponsors.
