Not a surprise, would be good if he took up a coaching role at the club though.

Vieira released by City
Frenchman parts ways with club after 18 months at Eastlands
Last Updated: June 16, 2011 11:38am

The World Cup-winner spent 18 months at Eastlands after arriving from Inter Milan in January 2010.

Frenchman Vieira, who will turn 35 this month, played a bit part at City last season, with most of his Premier League appearances coming off the bench.

Many of his outings came in FA Cup and Carling Cup matches in a campaign that saw City lift their first major trophy in 35 years.

Vieira's last appearance for Mancini's side came as a late substitute in their FA Cup final victory over Stoke.

His next move is uncertain, with the former France international having been linked with clubs in the USA and Qatar.

City boss Roberto Mancini is also thought to have offered the ex-Arsenal man a coaching role at Eastlands.

For me is a surprise. Bob extended his contract when he played shite, but after this final fixtures, when he was like in the old days, he goes. If he wants to retire, i understand, but if not, maybe we did a mistake.
I wonder who will replace him.

Would've liked him to stay another year. He's useful for coming off the bench and calming the game down with his smart passing and positioning.
Hope he stays as a coach.

I would have given him another year. Overall I thought he was good for us on a short-term deal, as a squad player. His legs aren't what they were but he still had the eye for a good pass and got a few goals this season. The players all clearly love him too.

I hope he stays on in a coaching role. He's won every trophy out there so his experience could prove invaluable to us!

We must have some 'oldie' coming in to replace him I would have thought. We need that kind of experience around the kids in the first team. Mario especially.

Do NOT give him coaching contract. Was always the laziest in training ground for Arsenal by many accounts.

In my eyes it wont be a coaching role, more of a mate, big bother/Lombardo role.

Good, simply not good enough for where we need to be. Barry, Milner, De Jong, Toure and even Kompany or Zabaleta at a push can fill in that position.

Came did a job at the back end of his career, most importantly he gave the younger lads sound advice in times of pressure. Glad he did us a service but his playing days are over.

Much respect!

Nope - http://mcfc.co.uk/Players/Management/Attilio-Lombardo

A big thanks to Vieira, his influence in the dressing room was a big factor in our excellent finish to the season, noted by several players in end of season interviews

I too hope he gets a coaching role with us

I'd rather go with Mancini's judgement on this one, no offence. Being lazy in training for Arsenal umpteen years ago won't make him a shit coach by default.

And being succesfull footballer doesn't make him good coach.

Oh, and him being coach for us is just mancityfans.net talk. No one from the Club has even hinted about such possibility. So there's Mancini's judgement right there. No offence.

I honestly think regards the coaching that he will go back to Arsenal, they made it clear a while back he would be welcomed to such a roll and you cannot fault him if he does.

I agree, but can you see Mancini offering Tevez the same deal?

I was going by this bit in the opening post:

City boss Roberto Mancini is also thought to have offered the ex-Arsenal man a coaching role at Eastlands.

Good luck Paddy.Had my resevations about signing him at first but he was very useful last season.Would not have minded if he had stayed on another year as he seems a real good guy to have in amongst the squad.
