Lets see how he does - I saw him as the successor for Mancini (I suppose he still could be) but I am not suprised a managerless club like chelsea has decided to take a chance on him - be great to see what he can do in the premier league

The actual New Mourinho. Should be interesting to see what he can do with an ageing team.

From the Guardian:

Chelsea have agreed to pay the release clause for the Porto manager André Villas-Boas, according to reports in Portugal, and the coach has accepted the offer to work in London.

Villas-Boas will earn €5m (£4.4m) a season, the exact salary José Mourinho earned at the west London club, according to Jornal de Notícias. Chelsea will also pay the €15m (£13.2m) release clause.

Villas-Boas has already informed Porto of his decision to leave for the English club, a source linked to the process told the Agência.

On Sunday the Porto president Pinto da Costa said "if a club pay the €15m and if he wants to leave, FC Porto can't do anything about it".

Apparently, Villas-Boas is now willing to leave the "dream job" (a reference to how Da Costa described his position at Porto) to re-join the club where he worked with Mourinho.

Villas-Boas led Porto to the domestic double and Europa League success last term and Chelsea are looking to fill the vacancy created by the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea's owner, Roman Abramovich, may leave €45m in the coffers at Porto's Dragão stadium in total, moreover. According to A Bola, he also wants to take the Colombian forward Falcao to London as a sweetener for Villas-Boas's signature.

Chelsea have also been in negotiations with Guus Hiddink about returning to the club he briefly managed in 2009. Chelsea have been talking with the Dutchman about taking either the coach's job or the sporting director role – should he take on the latter then there would also be room for Villas-Boas to take a position at the club.

Porto's press office refused to comment on the situation on Monday morning. However, it is understood that any deal would have to be announced on the Portuguese stock exchange

I rate Boas very highly, but I think he could be sacked within months. Not because he is bad, because his style of play will take longer to mature than Abramovich's patience will tolerate. The premier league is a different animal to the Portuguese league after all, he can't cut and paste his Porto philosophy into this league, he will have to adapt things to suit, which will take time.

Chelsea will likely not win anything this year, but should they stick with Boas, long term, they could be an incredibly strong force. He is a superb manager, one who if Bobby ever left us I'd fancy here.

Lets hope he gets the backing at Chelsea his talent deserves.

think that he'll struggle to win over the dressing room having (only) been a member of the backroom staff a few years ago....

The dressing room is easy. Tactics and footballing philosophy is the tricky bit.

From what i've seen of Porto, they play nice attractive football, free flowing. Trying to translate that will be tough in this league.

Remember when Sammy Lee tried to make Bolton into a passing side... don't think he got past 10 games in charge before he was sacked. Of course in that example Sammy wasn't working with the same calibre of player, nor was he the same calibre of manager, my point is in theory your tactics and ideas may be sound be translating them and getting it to click takes time, which is something managers seldom have in this league.

Villa Boas has a tough job on his hands if he takes it. Good challenge though, make it at Chelsea and the sky's the limit for the guy.

Villas Boas, Vilas Boas, Villas Boss, it doesn't matter', Abramovic will sack him after he fails to win the next year's UCL.
