What targets will make you satiated in the next campaign?

Postby DoomMerchant » Sat Jun 25, 2011 6:08 am

Well, what is it? Do you need to win the league? get to the Quarters of the CL? win a cup, either one? just another top 4?

For me, the minimum, and i mean "bare cupboard ass Mancini doesn't lose his job" minimum is that i think we've got to win a pot to keep the juices flowing...and we've also got to finish top 4, with some real fervor and not a whimper. In fact, i don't mind if we win something and end up 4th if it's an exciting as fucl season where we battle and challenge and seem to have a shot at the title into the springtime, and play with some passion and attacking verve and not like some retarded Italian side who hope the opponent will wilt because "we are Juve" or because the fix is in, etc.

i think this season could well be the fuclin closest Prem finish ever, and at least 5 if not 6 teams could be vying for the top spot with some legitimacy. The distance between the top 6 wasn't great in theory, and in results it was borne out as well i think.

Could Spurs or Scouse filth win the league? doubtful, but yknow you just don't know. Both are in some transitionary phase i feel, with Liverpool rising and Spurs falling. Will the Kenny impact have a sophmore snag and give them a dose or reality? Will Spurs lose some talent like Modric and Bale and react like a terrorist being waterboarded and piss their pants and vomit on themselves? I can only hope.

United look to be strengthening but on top of an allegedly weak squad, but one that won the league. They will defend their title with vigor. Let's smash the cunts in the charity shield to show our intent straight off.

Chelsea will be buoyed with a new gaffer and some new signings for sure -- that could be really positive or create some chemistry issues. Who will they chuck aside and how will the team composition impact their first half of the season. I like them bringing in the Boas Constrictor. I think he will do well. i like him. Fearful. And if Essien is going anywhere, we better fuclin kidnap his black ass Fergie style and get him in a blue shirt with those excitingly gay soundwaves on it FFS. He's still got a couple seasons and i love him when he's heatlhy...which might seem rare as of late, but he's a talent.

Arse will be arse...could they pull a rabbit out of the hat and quit underachieving? only if they keep nasri and spend on a Goalie and some defenders. Keeping Clichy wouldn't hurt, and Fabs, but honestly they have cover in both areas. If they can find a few gems this summer and part with some cash instead of bitching up, and find a solid keeper they could challenge for the title easily. Wenger's last stand or is he so arrogant that it will be status quo for him? It will be interesting to see. i think the arrogant french donkeyfucker rides his luck and still doesn't spend like he needs to and gets tarred and feathered. The end is nigh. Will he sniff that out and respond like a man or be an arrogant jackass and insiste he knows best despite his failings. An epic season for an all-time great manager...his legacy hinges on his reaction to that question i believe.

i think it will be a real dogfight this season, and i see no reason we cannot win the league if we sign some players to fill some gaps, allow a few back in from the wilderness to account for the CL matches we'll need to be prepared for, and have a bit of good, old-fashioned luck.

Roll on the new season algoddamready! i'm ready for some fuclin football.

What will satisfy you this season?

cheers
viVa el ciTy!

without wishing to sound arrogant, I think it will be a two way race between us and the rags for the title
chelsea will cause their usual problems but with so many players in their twilight years, and and yet another transitional period managerwise, I can't see them having a real go, but they will be a thorn in our side,
I think liverpool will be the contenders for 4th place
arse look like they are losing 3 key players, still haven't got their goalkeeper shit together, vermalen is about the only truly decent defender they have, and it looks like they will be adding samba to their ranks - I see a 5th place looming next season

As for the charity shield, yaya to bat them all aside like a thuggish rhino and then pop it past whoever is in goal with the finish of a lythe ballerina would be great - then tevez to smash one in from 20 yards and realise that actually, city is the love of his life

The chances of winning a pot this year are about 3-1. The point you make and I agree with is that it all really depends on how arse Chelsea and scum perform, scum especially have a huge hole to fill between the sticks.

The most important thing for me is that we really establish ourselves as a CL evergreen team. We still have ground to make up in terms of prestige against the top euro sides and a good solid 3rd will keep me happy, maybe a final thrown in as well.

I think expecting to win a trophy every season doesn't sit right with me. Expecting to make a semi is a reasonable target and hoping for some luck is more realistic.

Getting through the group stages of the chumps league would also be a realistic target. It's a lottery from there.

The league? I'm hopeful, but I don't expect to win it. There are too many variables. If last season's squads from all teams had remained, we would win it in a canter. However this is obviously not the case. Top 3 again please.

These are minimum expectations. Of course, success in one of these 3 areas would negate failures in the others. I'd happily lose all chumps league games if it meant we won the league.

Oh my, how the bar has been raised.... love it.

I'd like to see us in the last 16 of the CL and fighting for the lague with 5 games left.

That's an honest to goodness exciting season for me. Winning a cup is nice, but it's done now, lets fight for the lot. That might take another season or two, but it's coming.

Third or above in the league.

Through the Champs league group stages.

Decent FA cup run.

Another win over the filth.

Beat Everton in one of their cup finals.

I'd be really happy with this. I also agree with Dazby, expecting to win a trophy every season doesn't fit right with me either and it will be a log time before it does. Our progress has been beyond my expectations thus far so a consolidation of our standing or slight improvement will do me just fine.

I'd love to win another cup but I won't see it as failure if we don't. I will see it as failure if we don't put in some kind of challenge in most competitions inc the Prem. I don't expect us to win it but I do expect us to at least look like we might win it.

In order to do that, the kind of games which many people were happy to see us play last season like a lower league side playing away from home in a cup game; well this season we have to be looking to win some of those games. That could mean US having to dictate the play at The Emirates or Stamford Bridge or Anfield rather than standing about in lines hoping we don't get beat.

Imo, we don't yet have the correct blend of attacking options to cover all angles. We sometimes struggle to score when we're on top & if our plan 'A' doesn't work we sometimes look impotent wheras the rags, Chelsea & even Spurs often have the ability to overwhelm teams with power & or pace if purely using finesse fails.

Therefore, imo, our success next season will depend on what happens in the tranfer market now & how those players fit in. We need more ways to break teams down, cover for injuries to top players (& for 'tiredness' !) & a left back. Get it right & we could be in for one hell of a season. Get it wrong & it's another battle for 4th.

I agree with Wooders, in that I think it will be us and the Scum going for the PL. I'm stuck on a job at the moment where the facilities are so lacking I'm mostly having to listen to Talkshite all day. It's amazing that we dont really exist still, unless someone remembers at the last minute. But they will all have a shock next season.

No reason why we cant challenge for the CL either. We can outplay Scum at Wembley already!

Of all the signings we make I would like to see a left back that can run, and a good centre back in case Vinnie or Lescott are injured, and it seems Vieira will need replacing in midfield. Another forward to replace Jo would be nice but if we have Tevez, Mario, Dzeko etc we are not doing too badly. But I know Bobby likes to have lots to choose.

Loads of people on here last summer were saying we should be aiming for/satisfied with 4th, but may get fifth. I thought we should have a good chance of challenging for the title, and as it tuned out we finished equal second. Given that Chelsea, Scum and us all had notable weaknesses, any of the 3 could actually have won it.

There is a tendency to under-estimate our abilities in these topics. How on earth could people think we would be lucky to improve on the finish place of 2010?

A couple of decent signings and we will be right up there, from the off, especially as we will have a pre-season this year!

I've no doubt Bobby and Mubarak will be targeting 1st.

Win the Charity Shield.

Get out of group in Champions League.

Win any one of the four competitions we're in.

Finish in the top 3.

That's what I'd like to see happen, but I won't be calling for the manager's head if it doesn't. Also, CL aside, I don't see what good a cup 'run' would do us these days. I'd rather go out in the 3rd round of either domestic cup than in the Quarters to be honest. That said, I think we'll have a good crack at winning both.

Arse are never real season long contenders, liverpool will finish 4th. Arse in europa next season.

The scum losing vds is a massive blow, he got them a good few points last season, they could have lost alot of those away draws without him. Add that to teams not being as scared of them anymore (away atleast) and they will have a tougher season but still be up there.

Chelski have a new manager, some of the players that have performed in the past aren't doing it anymore but i think luiz is going to have an awesome season and torress has the potential to go and bang 25 goals in but it could go the other way and luiz could give away 25 penalties while torress flops about all season. Bit unsure about chelsea next season.

So going off that and us keeping tevez and balo playing a whole season without studding anyone and the rest of the team doing what they know they can i want 2nd minimum, atleast the semi's in both domestic cups and a good CL run and to fucking beat everton for fucks sake. I'm not expecting us to set europe on fire just yet though.

Top 3
Semis of a domestic cup
Not finishing bottom of the CL group stages; if we finish third, then a decent Europa run, to the semis at least.
