Chelsea complain about our spending...

Easily my favourite article this year.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has labelled Manchester City's recruitment policy as "unfair" after the title contenders once again splashed out to land Sergio Aguero.

The Argentinian joined City in a deal worth around £35million to add to a squad already bursting with world-class talent.

Perennial big-spenders Chelsea have, so far, been unusually quiet despite seeing most of their title rivals invest heavily in new players.

But Villas-Boas feels City's financial dominance gives them an unnatural advantage in the transfer market.

"I think it's unfair. I think it's pretty clear that they are building a squad to fight for the title," he said ahead of Chelsea's clash with Aston Villa in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy.

"It's for Mancini to say what his objectives are but my personal perspective is that they are making good signings and that they can threaten for the league."

However, Villas-Boas still feels this season's title race could be the closest yet.

"I think Man United as the title holders will be a reference for everybody but you can see the amount of activity Manchester City have had in the market. It's pretty clear they have a title objective as well," he said.

"Liverpool did more or less the same, Tottenham want to get back into the top four so they'll be challenging and Arsenal are always a threat - we haven't seen the last of them in the transfer market - so everybody is strengthening and as long as everybody feels happy with what they have, everybody competes in a different way."

6 months on from Torres record breaking £50 million move to Chelsea, in a Jan window where they spent £70+ million on players, our spending is now unfair...

You could not make it up.

This looks like what he has said is being taken completely out of context to me
what exactly is he saying is unfair ?
What he says afterwards sounds like he is saying "City are spending so they can compete for the title" nad has a "fair do's" air to the rest of his comments
Maybe he is saying FFP is unfair?

Not sure this article doesn't have journo spin all over it

YCMIU never seemed more apt than here.

I feel aggrieved when the filth mention our spending, Chelsea are on another planet if they think we aren't following their 2003 business model(just doing a better job of it)

agreed...he's not saying it's unfair that we're spending, because his comments are actually flattering about the fact that we're going for it.

he's not a total knobhead i don't think. in fact, just the opposite.

cheers

i haven't watched the video myself, but people are saying he had a bit of a wry smile on his face as he said it ... maybe a bit tongue in cheek? Let's not take ourselves too seriously lads, put away the anthrax and don't send any bombs by post just yet.

How are we going to react when a Chinese trillionaire buys Everton and brings in Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney?

I saw the interview in question on Sky earlier and I don't remember him saying it was unfair, the opposite to be honest, try reading the quotes without that first sentence, whereas they showed a clip from the same press conference of Alex McLeish who did say something along those lines

Torres and Luiz for 70m, an offer for Lukaku of 20m, an offer for Modric of ~33m, and an offer for Pastore of 45m.
Chelsea have spending power.
Whos this AVB guy? He must be new......
