A proper way to treat people

I just read this article about M Johnson http://www.click-manchester.com/sport/manchester-city/1213860-mancini-shunned-me-reveals-manchester-city-midfielder-johnson.html? and I must admit I have a big problem with how both Mancini and the club have treated some of our fringe players. We heard a similar complaint from some of the others. While I am generally a fan of Mancini, I believe he and the club have made some errors in the way they have dealt with them. Even if a player has no future with the club, there is still a proper way to treat people and show them respect. Outsiders already have plenty of reasons to hate this club and I see no reason why trivial things such as this should ever crop up in the media and add fuel to the fire that we are simply a footballer factory with no concern for people. Our club should be more professional that that. I'm sure that some have a view that every decision City makes should not be questioned but I hate to think of us as some huge corporate machine spitting out players after they are of no use with no concern as to how it looks on the outside.

I think Johnson should be the last player to be slagging off Mancini, or the club. He should be grateful that we've stuck by him, paid him, given him the best treatment and not fucked him off when he ballooned like a bastard and allegedly gambled and drank his days away.

He'd have been much better off telling the press how grateful he is for everything we've done for him, and thanking Mancini for giving him the chance to get back on track by going out on loan.

I watched the SSN interview with MJ which was part of the Sven showing off 2 new players (MJ +Pantsil) I thought MJ was quite good as he seemed to talk only about the opportunity he has at Leicester rather than get drawn into the typical leading questions hoping he would have a go at City.

That said I don't think there is much doubt to me that Mancini has a bit of a weakness in man management and handling fringe and effectively discarded players. He had difficult decisons to make ( some maybe not so difficult) and he made them.I applaud him for being strong and doing that and only time tells whether he gets more of those decisions right than wrong. So far so very good it would seem but he doesnt seem to pay much attention to those who get " left behind" does he?

Should he? OK if the club has some sort of safety net to cushion the blow, but surely Manicni has more important tasks than to make sure (inherited) fringe players feel appreciated?

i agree...i've inherited a new team at work and the last thing on my mind is that the people i don't fancy being part of the team thinking i'm a nice guy and not a total dickhead.

they are crap and i will move them on...end of story. Even higher stakes and more dispassionate when it comes to millionaire athletes imho.

Ade, Bellamy, and MJ can all have their bukaki festival in effigy on Mancini's face all they want, but i think...well, i think...esss normalll.

cheers

“Hopefully the injuries are all behind me now,” he said. “I believe I can go even higher than I was before.”

Good luck with that

Totally agree with this. The club has been more than patient with Johnson and it's time for him to stop his gambling and drinking and repay that patience.

He has been a parasite on the club for years now and it's about time he started earning his salary.

The article in the link from the OP is about ADAM JOHNSON

Not long after mancini got here didn't he make some comments like "MJ is a fantastic player and we hope he can get healthy and be a part of the team" ... then MJ was injured for another year. It was probably in that time that mancini realized MJ wouldn't be healthy enough to really challenge for a spot where we are going ... and was maybe also clued in on some of MJ's past indiscretions. Mancini strikes me as the kind of person that does not like players who gamble and drink their talent away. That's MJ gone then.

No, it's not.The journo is an idiot and got the first names wrong.. Adam didn't go through 3 injury ravaged years at City and is not going on loan to the Foxes.

It's not about "i don't fancy being part of the team thinking i'm a nice guy and not a total dickhead"

That comparison is totally twisting what I was trying to say. You should be a journalist for the Mirror :)

I agree Mancini has more important tasks but that is not a reason to ignore them if that indeed is what he does.He has made the tough decision as I said and fair play to him for being strong and doing that but imo how people are treated in these circumstances is quite important. No reason to be a dickhead as you decided to call it.

At the end of the day it is not down to Mancini to man manage any player that will not be involved with his squad.

That is down to the "behind the scene men".

Mancini has his management style which will not be everyone's cup of tea.....and that applies to probably every fuckign manager out there......no matter what business you run...as long as you get results noone really gives a shit about some of your baggage that you carry.

Good point, well made.

(Sports) psychology is our one weakness at the moment. We need to set the standard in this as well, considering how much your average Prem player is worth these days it's practically criminal to neglect it.

Ok, I have had a few beers and didn't bother reading the link but think I get general gist...

MJ is basically "saying" that we have treated him badly? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't he only on loan to the foxes?

If so and this is directly from him, surely he has sealed his own fate?

I appreciate that the club has changed in his time with us but, surely even he can recognise that had he been at many other prem clubs he would have scrapheeped by now?

I have two mindset like many of us.... the club we were and the club we have become, the club we have become is (disregarding the financial aspect) from what I see is mainly down BobbyManc, so forgive me if he is concentrating on the players who are and can deliver week in week out?

I would like to think that if we are still paying his wages that the club penalise him at minimum for talking out of turn.

Rule number one surely is, don't bite the hand that's fed you for the last 3 years, especially if they still hold your contract!

Agreed. I don't think its all down to Mancini. I think its primarily the clubs responsibility to handle these issues and I don't understand why we spend so much time trying to be professional in other ways, we can't for example, find a locker for Academy graduate Nedum. Its not about one player but I think special attention should be paid to academy grads who have spent many years here. The reason I brought it up was because I have heard it several times, not because it was MJ.

we'll have to agree to disagree. i don't think the manager should have some emotional attachment or pleasantries with players he doesn't rate or don't factor in his plans.

i don't think anyone's actually given an example of Mancini being a dickhead. Because he hasnt gone out of his way to explain to a player who hasn't featured in 3 years and has been injured or gambling for the better part of 4 or so that makes Mancini a bad guy or means City have fucked these guys over? i am not buying it.

As much as i've stumped for Bellers or Ade -- they know they aren't rated by Mancini for one reason or another. They need to move on but are trapped by wages. I'm sure Mancini is as frustrated by that as they are. Bitching won't cure it.

Look at Shay Given...handled his situation with aplomb, and moved on to another team and didn't act like a spoiled little bitch. Hats off to him for being a man and a pro. Exactly how all the rest should be when they aren't good enough for first team footy based on the gaffer's desires.

cheers

I think Johnson has been a fantastic example to any young players on how not to behave when your hitting the big time.

Great player, great talent, great drinker, great gambler. And still he's under contract. He should be counting himself lucky.
