Stats can be misleading, but I'd like to see his stats in comparison with our other midfield players, but particularly De Jong and the much-maligned Barry.
He'll probably always be celebrated for having scored two Wembley winners but then Benjani scored a derby winner and thats the only positive thing we remember him for.
I think he unbalances the midfield, and even our strike force, in the way he 'ambles' through a game and gambles his effectiveness on punishing charges half the length of the field, which effectively reduces us to 10 men for at least the succeeding 5 minutes.
I've been having reservations about that reported Sneijder signing, because the net effect might be a relative sidelining of Silva, but now I think Sneijder, or whoever, could operate from deep, and let Silva roam about in that final third that he loves so much, without having to worry about dropping deep to retrieve the ball.
Plus that would also free up Ya Ya for the defensive midfield role he made his name at.
But, as for the stats, I'd really like to see them, for each of Ya Ya, Nige, and Barry
1). Tackles won
2). Interceptions made
3). Passes made
4). Pass % completion rate
5). Average length of pass, successful and unsuccessful
6). Miles covered per 90 minute game

Quality player when he gets going, he just needs to get going.
Nige, and a few more, were just as bad today. Hopefully, just a pre-season game in Mancini's book, and it looked like it.

Thats the problem, even during his best games, he only occasionally got going!

The charity shield is not just a friendly mate...its a cup worth fucking winning.......we were shit and that's the truth and it hurt to lose this against them cunts.

Yep agree 100%, its even worse because it was against them. I hate to loose to them. We were not at the races to day at all. I am perplexed at the lack of quality signings, cun aside that is. We need another striker and play maker asap.

Agreed, but it's not part of our season. The real test comes next week and the 37 after, that's what counts.
After 10 minutes of that game it was plain to see we weren't on equal terms and that Mancini had got it completely wrong or it was just part of the bigger picture. Time will tell.

Fuck me !
I had considered starting a thread about Balotelli but didn't want to be accused of knee-jerk negativity. THIS thread is fucking ridiculous.

Yaya had a slow start in his last 3 seasons. In october, last year, he and Tevez were our main players. Today you can't accuse anyone, all of them played mediocre.

What that everyone is thrashing around in a state of panic with calls to bin Balo, Yaya and whoever because we went 2-0 up with out playing that well and then into extreme sloppy mode and gifted them victory?
In a friendly.
Mind you could be worse. We could have spent £20m on De Gea
Its annoying especially as we chucked it away more than anything else but it is still a friendly...

having not seen the game, I can't really comment, however, as it's in the middle of Ramadan, I'm assuming Yaya isn't eating properly and maybe not drinking, which I assume will be a problem, so we may have to accept some dodgy performances till September.

If that is the case what the hell is the manager picking him for?

That's an amazingly well thought out post.
I had not thought of that at all and we have 3 muslims at work in the midst of it as well. (One of them up for NATA registration and short on patience with the whole thing)

Why didn't Mancio sub him then? 3 out of 6 possible subs.

Ya Ya isnt match-fit, as due to that ankle injuy he's about 2 weeks behind the rest. He needed that game yesterday to help fast-track him hence why Mancini probably left him out there to suffer but he was about 2 yards short.

The bollox raised in the What does Yaya do thread seem to be surfacing again. They were shown to be bollox then and are still bollox.Yaya does plenty. He doesn't run round chasing shadows so probably looks lethargic to some but this is far from the truth.

Why does he never sub him even when he looks as though he's blowing out of his arse with 15 minutes to go (not restricted to Ramadan)?
When he's on form his surging powerful runs are great but the fact remains that in most games where he is played in the advanced midfield role he is frustrating in his ineffectiveness for large parts of the match. Played a DM (once or possibly twice for us) he seems a lot more natural so why insist on playing him in a position that he isn't suited to?
