Man City ready to let £25m flop striker go for free
Manchester City are ready to let Emmanuel Adebayor join Tottenham on a free transfer.
Two years after spending £25million to recruit the striker from Arsenal, the richest club in the world want to ditch the Togo striker and shed his £170,000-a-week wages.
But even on a free transfer, Spurs will shy away from a permanent deal. They are content to take Adebayor on loan, with City subsidising the bulk of the 27 year-old’s wages.
Over the next three years Adebayor’s wages will cost City around £30m.
City are also refusing to pay around £3m in agents fees and that’s why Samir Nasri’s £25m recruitment from Arsenal has stalled.
The clubs agreed the transfer fee and Nasri accepted City’s offer of a five-year deal worth £180,000-a-week.
But Sunday Mirror Sport understands that City broke off negotiations when it became clear that Nasri’s advisers wanted paying for making the deal happen.
Sources at the club last night insisted that the move could still take place.
But they have told Nasri and his advisers that they will not pay agency fees on top of a premium transfer fee and wages.
Nasri, who has turned down Arsenal’s offer of a new contract worth £90,000-a-week, featured in the Gunners side beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at The Emirates yesterday.
Adebayor is in danger of being frozen out of City’s plans and needs to escape the Eitihad Stadium.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: “It in the hands of the chairman. I spoke to him some time ago about Adebayor and I would like to bring him to White Hart Lane if we can do a deal with City. But it would only be on loan.”
Spurs have a wage cap that has not exceeded £65,000 for several years and prevents them from even entertaining taking Adebayor on a permanent deal.

Man City agree deal to sell young winger
Manchester City have agreed a £3million deal to sell Slovakian winger Vladimir Weiss to Dynamo Kiev.
Weiss, 21, has been told by Roberto Mancini that his chances will be limited this season, despite playing a prominent role during City’s pre-season tour of the United States and Canada. The winger spent last season on loan with Rangers after a spell at Bolton the previous year.
Weiss – whose father Vladimir is Slovakia’s coach – was part of the City team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2008, but has found his first-team opportunities limited

Man City flop rejects Celtic loan move.
Wayne Bridge has rejected a loan move to Celtic
Manchester City were prepared to massively subsidise a season-long loan move to Parkhead.
But the former England left-back has no interest playing in Scotland and would prefer to remain in England.
Both Newcastle and Championship side West Ham, where the defender spent part of last season on loan, have enquired about taking him.
Yet City were not prepared to offer either side the terms on offer to Celtic.
The SPL side were only prepared to pay £20,000 towards Bridge’s £90,000-a-week salary, yet when Newcastle enquired, they were told they would have to pay Bridge’s entire salary to take him to St James’ Park.

Aguero: It is disrespectful to compare me to Maradona
Sergio Aguero claims it’s embarrassing when people compare him with the Argentinian legend called Diego Maradona.
Manchester City’s new £38million striker knows Maradona well.
He’s married to the South American hero’s daughter Giannina and clearly has no wish to invoke the fury of his father-in-law.
Yet the comparisons do continue – understandably.
When Aguero, aged just 15 years and 35 days, became the youngest player to appear in the Argentinian First Division with Independiente, who did he oust from the record books?
Diego Maradona.
Aguero took the Premier League by storm on his debut last Monday night, coming on as a second-half substitute to score twice and set up another goal in the 4-0 win over Swansea.
So how does he cope with being mentioned in the same breath as one of the world’s greatest ever players?
Aguero said: “I find it embarrassing when people compare me to Maradona. How can they? It’s disrespectful. There is only one Maradona.
“People who say this just have no idea, they don’t know what they are talking about. And you won’t find me ever fuelling comparisons with him.
“Diego was a complete one-off, an all-time great who can never be matched and will never have an equal on the football pitch.
“I know I can play, but you will never find me saying that I’m the new Maradona.
“He was a genius with a ball at his feet, a leader and a total inspiration to his team-mates.
“No one, I repeat no one, could have transformed teams like he did all those years ago. Like so many, I have nothing but respect for what he achieved.”
Maradona inspires mixed reviews in England, although every football fan can appreciate his genius.
But the bitter taste of cheating from his “Hand of God” goal against England in the 1986 World Cup finals will never be forgotten. For Aguero, his relationship with Maradona is extremely close.
The player, born and bred in Quilmes, a tough suburb of Buenos Aires, even sought the great man’s advice when he decided to join City.
In fact, Aguero ensured his wife Giannina and his father-in-law gave their blessing to a move that has seen his earnings rocket past the £200,000-a-week mark when he left Atletico Madrid where he was revered and happy.
But he swiftly draws a line under talk that he is more than capable of following in Maradona’s footsteps.
“It’s fair to say we have a similar approach to the game,” said Aguero.
“We always look to invent, take risks and make things happen in the attacking third of the field.
“Both of us love to dribble, quicken the play and react fast out on the pitch.
“There are other things too, as each of us plays with raw emotion, each of us is driven by a burning desire to win.
“Then again, all Argentine professionals are highly motivated and competitive.
“Ultimately, though, Maradona was a genius, the world’s greatest ever player and a legend, while I’m just an apprentice.”
Maradona worked as Aguero’s boss when he coached the Argentina national side. And when it comes to advice on football matters, Aguero invariably goes knocking on his father-in-law’s door .
Turning to his arrival in the Premier League, Aguero added: “He gave me his blessing and told me to play football and enjoy myself.
“Whenever I’ve asked him for advice, he’s been there and, you know, he’s always straightforward and honest in his analysis. Diego likes to keep things simple and straightforward.
“We both come from humble backgrounds and he has always said the important thing is to remember where we have come from.”

SNEIJDER 'SNUBS' MAN CITY
MAN City have failed in a late swoop for Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder.City, at a secret meeeting last week, proposed a swap deal with wantaway Carlos Tevez but Dutch ace Sneijder said no.
Manchester City have failed in a dramatic late swoop for Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder.
A high-level meeting was held at a secret venue in Europe last week, when it was planned to agree a deal which would have taken Sneijder to City in exchange for Carlos Tevez.
But City abandoned the deal when it was made clear by the Dutch star’s representatives that he wouldn’t compromise on his massive wages of £250,000 a week.
Neighbours Manchester United had a similar problem when they tried to sign Sneijder, 27, although it is understood that United is still the club he wants to join.
Sunday can reveal that a City delegation, believed to be headed by chief executive Garry Cook, flew out for a meeting with Sneijder’s advisors immediately after Monday night’s victory over Swansea.
But they were left disappointed and dismayed after being confident a deal would be agreed.
A City source said the days of the club being held to ransom over wages were “long gone.”
A cash deal to take Tevez to Inter, though, could be resurrected if City lower their £50million asking price.
An Inter source said a reduction in the fee to between £40m and £45m could see Tevez heading for the San Siro before the transfer window closes at the end of the month STAR

Roberto Mancini floored by Pablo Zabaleta as Man City get physical
Image
Roberto Mancini is proud of Manchester City's ultra-physical training games, but may have regretted that approach when he was floored by a Pablo Zabaleta tackle.
The City boss was a silky midfielder during his playing days, but his quick feet weren't enough to take him clear of Argentine hardman Zabaleta, who piled into him during Friday's practice match at Carrington.
Mancini went down as though he had been hit by a Nigel de Jong special, complete with a facial expression that indicated he was in agony.
But seconds later the Italian was up on his feet and smiling about the incident, so perhaps he was just showing his players how to feign injury and win a free-kick!
Zabaleta could really have done without upsetting the manager, as he was left on the bench for the 4-0 opening-weekend win over Swansea.
Dumping Mancini on his backside doesn't seem like a great way for him to win his place in the team back; but the Citizens' next test is Bolton Wanderers away, so perhaps reminding the boss of his hardman credentials was appropriate.

Don't you see? They define what is market value and the rest of us has to fall in line and make sure we get less.

Why would City pay Adebayor's wages to help Spurs ? What do we get out of it ? Unless we're getting something from Spurs it's bollocks.

City save about 70k a week. If the alternative is an EDS player earning 170k a week, I'd say it's not too bad. Spurs have the upper hand here & they know it.

When we got rid of Ireland we finished 5th and Aston Villa 6th, although it was fairly clear we were upwardly mobile and Villa downwardly so. Some daft fool on here said we should not be selling Ireland to a rival - I remember it clear as day.

I suspect we have passed Tottenham by - or at least we think we have - and the club do not really consider them a 'rival'. Only Scum and Chelski, and I'm not too sure about the last based on yesterday's tripe.

So we give Spurs 70k pw in order to give them a better chance of costing us 30-50 mil by knocking us out of the top 4? All this saves us 4, 4.5 mil yet we were willing to spend more than that on a 20 year old CB to play as 5th reserve just in case the other 5-6 players who can play CB get injured & leave us short for the Chumps Lg?

Anyone see a flaw in this economy ?

I'm not having it. It's bollocks.

EVENING BOLLOX
Mancini warns Arsenal over 'big problem' with Nasri deal
City manager says he does not want to see midfield target cup-tied for Champions League
Roberto Mancini raised the stakes in the Samir Nasri transfer saga yesterday when he warned that Manchester City could turn their attentions elsewhere if the Arsenal midfielder plays in Wednesday’s Champions League qualifier against Udinese and is cup-tied for the competition this season.
The City manager, whose team went to the top of the Premier League table after a 3-2 win away at Bolton, said it would be a “big problem” if, as Arsene Wenger has threatened to do this weekend, he picks Nasri for Arsenal’s crucial second leg game in north-east Italy. Nasri unexpectedly played for Arsenal against Liverpool on Saturday despite the continued negotiations over his pnds25m move to City. Mancini said that he remained confident that the deal would be done before the Arsenal squad leaves for Udine[corr] tomorrow afternoon but that he could not guarantee it.
Mancini said: “I hope that we can have Samir Nasri [today]. I hope we can have him in the next day but I don’t know when. We still have 10 days. We need some players if we want to complete our team. I hope he [Nasri] is not the last one in. If he plays in the Champions League [for Arsenal] it is a big problem. I don’t know [if I would still sign him] but hopefully we close in the next 24 hours.”
It is anticipated that Nasri will still sign for City in the next 48 hours, however, Mancini’s warning will not go unnoticed in the player’s camp who it has been suggested are delaying the completion of the deal over agents’ fees. “It’s a big problem because we have followed Nasri for 40 days,” Mancini said. “I wasn’t surprised [he played against Liverpool] because James [Milner] played in Astion Villa’s first game [last season before he joined City]. After that he arrived [at City].”
Asked whether Nasri being cup-tied might change his perspective on the player, he said: “For Nasri it will be important to play all the Champions League [for City]. It could be possible [for City to re-assess their targets].”

Today’s win at the Reebok stadium with goals from David Silva, Gareth Barry and Edin Dzeko also saw the return of Carlos Tevez to the City team for the first time since another turbulent summer in which he has voiced his desire to leave the club. Tevez came on as a second half substitute to a warm reception from the travelling fans and Mancini said that he did not see the Argentinian leaving this month.
The City manager said that he has still not made a decision on whether Tevez will be captain or whether the job will go permanently to Vincent Kompany, who did not hand the armband over to his team-mate yesterday. Mancini said: “Carlos is here and I don’t think we can change the situation. He is an important player and a top player for us and at the moment we have not received any offers for him and [that is why] he is here.”
Having been ahead 2-0 and 3-1, City twice allowed Bolton back into the game with goals from Ivan Klasnic and Kevin Davies that Mancini described as “stupid” mistakes by his team. “It is important that the team has balance and that we don’t concede a stupid goal [like yesterday],” he said. “Both were stupid goals because in the first half we dominated the game. We lost the ball once and left the [Martin] Petrov cross and it was a goal. If you don’t mark it is a problem. Until the last second the match was open.
“For me, we cannot concede two goals like we did [against Bolton]. We need to pay more attention. We need to score 15 goals more than we did last year [over the course of the season] but we cannot concede more than we did last year.” The City manager denied reports that he would be prepared to let the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Craig Bellamy leave on free transfers before the transfer window closes.
The Bolton manager Owen Coyle said that he regretted his team “gifting” City two goals. “If a club like this are going to beat you then you have to make them earn it,” he said, although Coyle refused to single out Jussi Jaaskelainen and Zat Knight, both of whom were at fault. “But if there were mistakes made then they were not made on purpose and the same players have been outstanding at other times,” he said.

Tim Dittmer signs for Manchester City
Former Sheffield Wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman has been named as Bradford City’s new goalkeeping coach. The 43-year-old will replace existing keeping coach Tim Dittmer, who has left to take up a position at Premier League side Manchester City.
City boss Peter Jackson said: “Tim has been made an offer he can’t refuse unfortunately. He is going to work with the academy ‘keepers at Man City. He is a great lad and every ‘keeper we’ve had at the club during my time here has enjoyed working with him. Kevin is coming in with great experience though. I am sure he will be a big help to the young goalkeepers we have here.”

Man City boss keen on coveted Uruguay stopper
Roberto Mancini is desperate to sign Uruguay centre-half Sebastian Coates, according to The People.
The City boss is a huge admirer of the Nacional defender and the Italian has urged his board to hand him another £6m to sign the youngster.
If the proposed £25m deal for Arsenals Samir Nasri does go through, Coates acquisition would take the Blues summer spending to £76m.
But Mancini is hoping to offload fringe players like Wayne Bridge, Nedum Onuoha and Shaun Wright-Phillips to free up space for Coates.
The 20-year-old was voted Young Player of the Tournament last month when he helped Uruguay win the Copa America and reported suitors include Arsenal, Liverpool, Porto and Sao Paulo.
If a deal cant be done by the end of this month, Mancini is certain to resurrect his interest in the young South American when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Coates is an elegant and quick defender, comfortable with possession and capable of bringing the ball out from defence.
He missed out on his country's World Cup squad in South Africa last summer and his inexperience at senior international level could provide an obstacle in obtaining a work permit, although he does have Spanish and British ancestry.

Johnson happy at City
England and Manchester City winger Adam Johnson dampened speculation of a loan move away from the Etihad Stadium.
Johnson has featured only intermittently since joining City from Middlesbrough in January 2010, and his chances of a first-team place have dimmed following the arrival of Sergio Aguero this summer.
Samir Nasri, who can operate in a wide position, is also expected to join from Arsenal before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
But Johnson was in the starting XI that began the 4-0 win over Swansea on Monday and, as long as he carries on making the odd appearance as City battle on four fronts, he has no interest in a rumoured loan switch to Tottenham, Everton or Aston Villa.
"I know I can't play every game but as long as I play my fair share then I will be happy," Johnson told the Mail on Sunday. "People thought I'd be a bit-part player when I signed but I said to myself I'll show people how good I am and get straight into the team.
"I'd like to win the Premier League above anything else, including the Champions League. But we won't take anything lightly."
