So if you had to name an XI

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

So if you had to name an XI

Postby twosips » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:41 pm

Who would it be?

None of this 'depends who we are playing' stuff. Let's just pretend we were playing as the favourites regardless and we could pick our strongest XI knowing we'd be better.....theoretically, obviously.

Just curious to see who you'd all pick.

It's fucking difficult, but based on current form I'd probably go something like this:

........ JH ........
MR . VK . JL . GC
.... NDJ .. YT ....
SN ..... SA .... DS
....... ED .........

Possibly even GB in for YT! It's so so difficult.

Swap Ed with Carlos and you have my team, either way so many options we look unelievable on paper, lets hope too many cooks dont spoil our team....

Why would you swap Dzeko with Tevez?

Cos hes the best player i have ever seen in a city jersey and as great as dzecko has been(and he has been) i take tevez over him everyday, as long as tevez is on our books training and does what he does best he is undroppable.

-----------------Hart
Richards--Kompany---Lescott---Clichy
---------------De Jong
--------Nasri----------Toure
Aguero------------------------Silva
----------------Dzeko

Subs: a decent second choice keeper, Toure, Zabaleta, Milner, Barry, Johnson, Tevez
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I'd do it too, based on the fact that he is arguably the best striker in our history, certainly the past 20-30 years. Edin Dzeko looks really strong right now, but Tevez is in a different league. I agree with the other 10 though and what a team, eh? That said, Lescott worries me.

Absolutely.
First of all, it was painfully apparent against Bolton that Tevez isn't fully match fit. Second, his head isn't where it should be right now. Third, he is offski sooner or later anyway. Fourth, can't have three midgets up front and I wouldn't drop either Aguero or Silva.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

My only concern is team balance really in regards to Tevez's inclusion.

We'd have four 'little men' all trying to drop deep and crowding that 'in-the-hole' position. I can't see Silva, Aguero, Tevez and Nasri not getting in each other's way. Could be wrong though.

That's what I was thinking. We need somebody like Dzeko up front.
Also, I don't think playing Tevez and Aguero at the same time is a good idea.

You don't even want Kolarov on the bench?

Who would you drop from the bench for Kolarov? We need a CB on the bench. Zabba can play on both flanks whilst Kolarov can only play on the left.
And the rest of the bench looks good, couple of midfielders & attacking options where changes usually are made anyway

With seven places on the bench and far superior player in Zabaleta available who can play both fullback positions and defensive midfielder? Absolutely not. Kolarov is esaily the weakest link if you put those 6 outfield players there and add Kolarov.

I don't. We have better options as said above. Plus, he's done nothing to suggest he's good enough for what we are trying to achieve.

Am I right in thinking that because of the U21 rule, that every player there would be in the 25?

I don't think we play as well with Tevez in. He great individually, but hogs the ball too much to get any good fluid passing going. It's nice to have a team without a player who is constantly looking to score himself, even when teammates are in better positions. Tevez was good when there wasn't as much quality around him, but without any weak link, he is too selfish to include for me

Tevez is our top scorer & has changed/won us more games than Silva, by a long long way.

There's no such thing as a 1st 11 with this squad now. It's down to who is on form & who is best suited to damage the oppo on any given day. Even DeJong is not an automatic choice after Sunday imo.
