Weak lnk in the back 4

Is Lescott without a shadow of a doubt.......Ive watched him closely the last few games and his positioning is below par, sometimes nowhere near the player...is this down to him zone marking at every fuckign set play?

Am I alone in thinking hes the weakest link we have or have had these last few games?

I think you are hardly alone, but I don't think we have much choice or many options with a short time to window. Maybe Kolo will come back hungry.

It seems to me Lescott as streaks of great form, and then long periods of poor form.

Yaya let Kaboul go for their goal yesterday. Other than that the defence were spot-on. I can understand if you don't rate him, but the timing of the thread is a bit unusual.

How was his marking during the Bolton game?

Lescott is twice at least twice as good in the air compared with Kolo. He is a decent centre half who can also cover the ground well.

Our issue is unless we have 4 or 5 Vinnies in the box (which we obviously never will!) our zonal marking will get ripped to pieces against some teams. Yesterday you could see how getting 2 yards forward motion meant yaya was fucked when Kaboul won his header as he steamed into the zone yaya was stood in.

None of our defenders would've beat Davies to that header. Can't remember who had Klasnic for his goal, but it was a smart finish nonetheless. Carl said he's been poor 'the last few games'. If the Bolton game was the problem, why not have the thread then rather than after a performance where he did cock all wrong? Not having a go, I just don't get it.

See where I am going with this? Maybe Carl just has a little patience to see if it was an off game or a recurring theme. I think he can be our best defender, but have had concerns with some of his play recently.

I think we'll always have someone to moan at a little bit. Wouldn't surprise me if we see a CB coming in the next 2 days. Lescott will do for now however. He also didnt bother jumping to clear a cross when Crouch had pulled 2 yards clear, his header went wide, but I would have totally blamed Lescott if that had gone in. Not bothering to jump to clear a cross is lame. Especially with the tallest playing in the league behind you.

Last year our weakness was our full backs, esp left back. This year its set plays.

I like to have a big, tall stand-up centre half alongside a more mobile one. Lescott for us is like Pique for Barcelona and Spain. They have shortcomings (mainly a lack of pace) but don't get shown up much because they play in teams that dominate possession. When they are called upon for set-pieces at both ends of the pitch, that's when you realise what they bring.

Although Kompany is a better player, I think Lescott compliments him very well.

Lescott might not be superb, but for me he is definitely better than Kolo Toure, and I really don't think he is bad enough to warrant spending £20million plus on a replacement. He didn't do much wrong against Spurs, it was Yaya sleeping that cost us the goal, and against Bolton as others have said there was very little anyone could do with the Davies header, as for Klasnic I remember thinking the problem there was Richards not doing enough to stop the cross from coming in.

Every time we let a goal in it's Lescott's fault. He is slow, far too one footed, has terrible positional sense, doesn't win enough headers, very poor communicator, can't pass a ball more than 5 yards, doesn't read the game well.......

Or maybe all that is garbage and he's actually a top class centre back who compliments Kompany very well.Maybe not world class or the best in the prem but a damned good centre back and I am glad we have him. But some like to have a go at players and while we are playing so well and winning consistently why not Lescott.

Should we just comment on the good stuff and forget about areas we need to focus on?

Lescotts positioning has been in question for me over the last few games...including Spurs and my question is , is is because of zonal marking in set plays or is it his bad positional play that needs addressing?

Actually "Some" like to point out the deficiencies in our team as well as our good points.

Lescott has been critized and fairly so imo....his positional play and failure to challenge a few headers has been disappointing and he needs to up his game.........Mancini was upset enough about some goals we have let in this season and Lescott is more guilty than anyone else up to now.

No. That's not what I was saying.

Anyway, I suppose you were asking if we share your concerns. In this case, my answer is definitely no. Lescott's just fine, and is actually improving if anything.

In your opinion and that's fair enough. Micah,Clichy,Vinnie,Yaya have all had fingers pointed at them for their so called part in goals conceded this year and not only Lescott. The only certain thing is that Mancini isn't happy that we have conceded from recent set pieces and he will no doubt be working on that when he gets the chance.

Listening to pros talk about zonal marking though it's no surprise that the odd goal will be scored against us.It's hard to see how they won't be with zonal marking if the cross and the movement are perfect.

I prefer it when Kompany plays on the right, so Lescott is a big plus in that department.

think its a bit of a harsh assessment carl and I question thats its worth starting a thread over - for me, he's not been the only one at fault for goals being linked and he very much lives in kompany's shadow as far as "fan favourite" will go
I think he compliments vinnie well, i like the partnership they have struck up and if anything this season has shown us that patience is a virtue - given a little more time to gel with vince, we'll have a top class defensive duo on our hands

If you watch the game again, notice Lescott is constantly winning balls in the air over Crouch. Recently, Spurs goto option has always been long ball for Crouch to head to VDV, Defoe, or Modric. Lescott marked Crouch out of the game and played great. About the Davis goal @ Bolton - Lescott was placed on Davis the whole game (as he seems to always mark the biggest threat in the air). Defending one of the best attackers of balls in the air (Kevin Davis) for entire game and only giving up a great header, isn't doing a bad job.

I feel this criticism is still based on Lescotts form a year ago and not how he is playing now.
