Having reshaped and restyled his team by signing Sergio Aguero and then Samir Nasri, Roberto Mancini has confirmed a third major alteration to his Manchester City side.
"The captain is Vincent Kompany," he said.
Carlos Tevez's demotion to the ranks has been officially ratified.
The unsettled Argentine faces a battle to reclaim his place but, when he does, he will be serving under the Belgian.
"The reason is simple," Mancini said. "Carlos wanted to leave the club for family reasons. I respect his opinion, but I decided in the summer that Vinnie is captain."

smart decision, the captain should identify himself with the club,
should not be looking for the next best chance to leave

Good decision. Tevez doesn't even deserve a place in the starting 11, IMO.
The way the team have started the season, nobody deserves to be dropped in favour of him.

Thank fuck for that. Bob waited so long to make it official that I was starting to wonder if he'd bottle it and give the band back to Herman.

Tevez is as good as anyone in our starting line up. Over the last two seasons the amount of games he's single handedly won us is staggering. He's a world class player, transfer request or no transfer request.

And based on this seasons first 3 games Tevez does not deserve to repalce anyone no matter how good he has been over the last 2 seasons....that was the point.

I agree. He still doesnt deserve a spot in our starting XI in the prem or champs league with
the way that the current XI are
currently playing barring injury.
Finally Mancini makes it official and I can stop worrying that by some chance he'd make Tevez captain again.
Glad Mancini got it right.

Well i never ...........
I think we have all been waiting far too long to hear this.Well done Vince. It's probably the happiest i have been for a city player to be handed the armband.
He looked good when Hughes played him as a defensive midfeilder but what a fantastic decision to make him the heart of our defense and we really have reaped the rewards since.Undoubtedly one of the best defenders n the game these days.Non city fans are even concedeing that now, they just can't deny it.

Not even particularily smart decision. Only sensible thing to do. Only about year late.

Yet the BBC try to put some bad spin on it
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14863386.stmEvery season, the Manager has the right to choose his Captain for the season. Things change and teams change. So Mancini is always allowed to change the Captain, if he feels it is necessary for the coming season.
I just feel he should have confirmed it at the beginning of the season, rather than after the transfer window had closed. This would have put Teves firmly in his place. Although I can't see Teves being bitter about this. He now realises only the Sheik will pay the kind of salary he is earning and City's performance without him so far has been magnificent. So he will have to tow the line if he wants to play.

Absolutely the right decision , I think the vast majority of us fans would have been pissed off if Carlos got captaincy after his actions.

Aye that was exactly the point. In the three games we've seen, we have a team that's playing as a team and everyone is firing. Whilst Tevez used to be our best player, he's now equal or perhaps even inferior to some of our front players on current form.
I'm looking forward to seeing him and Balotelli push for places today. It will be interesting to see what happens.
