Is set to take up a youth coaching role at the club

DRAGONS striker Gareth Taylor is set to take up a youth coaching role with Manchester City, although it might not yet be the end of his involvement at the Racecourse.

The former Wales international spoke with manager Dean Saunders today about an offer from City and as a result will be heading along the M56 to start work at their Platt Lane Complex.

"I went for a job they advertised with the U14s in the summer," said Gareth. "On that occasion I was not successful, but they have kept in contact since and recently came back with another proposal.

"I would love to think I could carry on playing forever, but now is a good time for me to be thinking about my future.

"Actually I was hoping I would be able to take up the coaching role there, which involves three or four days a week with City, and still help out with Wrexham.

"That's probably not possible, although I would be free on Saturday's, so I do intend offering Dean any help I can.

"In one respect I'm almost a little disappointed the City offer has come in now, as I'm really enjoying this season and think we have started something special.

"The way the fans reacted to the club's problems in the summer was something I have never witnessed during my years in football and I have been at some very big clubs.

"It was superb and I think that has brought the players closer together as a squad. As they can see the support they have from the town and throughout north Wales.

"I feel confident that they can push on and see no reason why the club can't get back into The Football League."

Gareth also took time out to thank the staff at the club for the help he has received since he joined Wrexham.

"Dean has been unbelievable with me, from letting me get involved with the Reserves to taking on more coaching responsibilities this year.

"I have learnt a great deal from him, as well as from the rest of the staff at Colliers Park.

"The club is on the verge of really achieving something and I hope that he gets the continued backing he needs to make sure that happens.

"I've watched on as he has developed as a manager, someone who knows what is required to succeed. How to make a substitution that can change things or alter his tactics as required to turn a game.

"It's been a pleasure to be involved with Wrexham and maybe you haven't seen the last of me just yet!"

He must be one of the worst strikers I have seen at City. What the fook is he gonna teach the youngsters - how to continually miss the target?

Is this us doing our bit for the community again? How can he possibly have anything to teach our kids, and he's even bleating that he doesn't really want the job, FFS grant his wish

Think Taggart would claim he was ok, but you're right, good players don't always make good coaches. Hoddle apparently used to be driven up the wall by players who couldn't put a free kick in the right place in training. If you're that gifted, teaching poor players must be like trying to teach a child.

What kind of people would complain about something like this ? Do you even know who he's replacing & how good they were at playing football ? Do you know anything about him as a coach ? If the answer to those questions is no, why don't you shut your fucking cake holes ?

Jesus.

Some of the best players make the worst coaches, and vice versa. I'm sure they looked at his coaching qualities and not past misses videos.

Indeed.

And after Franny Lee was such a rip-roaring success as chairman, you'd think people would at least learn to wait and see what happens.
