City chance for Mendiola
Teenage forward to meet with Premier League giants on Saturday

Manchester City are preparing to snap up highly-rated Mexican forward Raul Mendiola, with talks set to be held this weekend.

The 17-year-old is currently based in San Bernardino and plays for Alta Loma's Arsenal FC youth side.

He plundered 14 goals in the past season for Arsenal FC and was named US Development Academy U15/16 Player of the Year for a second year in a row.

Unsurprisingly, his talent has not gone unnoticed in Europe, with a number of clubs closely monitoring his situation.

City sent scouts to watch him in action at the 2011 Generation adidas U17 Cup, and were impressed by what they saw.

Mendiola is now set to travel to England to discuss a possible deal with City, with it likely that the Blues will look to send him out on loan if an agreement can be reached.

Excited
"I'm pretty excited," he told TopDrawerSoccer.com.

"It's one of the top clubs in the world.

"I've been told that there's a possibility that I could be loaned out to (Espanyol) in Spain for a year, or I could stay with Man City."

Having decided that the time is right to step up into the senior ranks, Mendiola has been training with MLS outfit the Los Angeles Galaxy in recent weeks and believes he has benefited from his time with the Californian club.

"Every training session I've had to give it my all," he added.

"I've been working hard, a lot on the defensive side. I'm looking forward to fulfilling my dream."

Are they an Arsenal feeder club? If so, it'd be hilarious if we pinched him from under their noses. We're just plundering that club now!

A few years from now, we won't be able to drop this lad for one game without 50 Yank fanboys kicking up shit on here. It'll be worse than Dzeko & Ireland put together, just watch..

Not if he chooses to play for Mexico. He'll be dead to us.

Wow, nice gross generalization. Ted Hughes was a drunk, you call yourself Ted Hughes, so therefor you must be a drunk. Guess I got that sorted.

;)

Not all us Yanks are fanboys will be kicking up shit for our USA born players (even though Mendiola is Mexican.. which by the way would be like a Brit kicking up shit over a Germans playing time), as was evidence by all the slagging I gave Beasley and Reyna.

If/when Mendiola picks a full international side, it may make my point change about what is in the parenthesis, but the rest still holds valid... :)

And so far no German has come one here and kicked up shit over Owen's playing time.

The Sun (I know, I know) report that City and Liverpool had scouts in Miami yesterday to watch another American, Brek Shea.

And then afterwards they were both invited to his home, to Brik Shea's House.

If we could only get the Colin Bell stand to harmonise, i reckon Chinners would stand out as THE sopranno

nice.

I dont watch MLS so I've never seen him play for his club but I have seen him play for our national team and he's very
Milner-esque in my opinion. He's got a great motor and determination...He seems to play pretty well wide or in the center of midfield. He's put in a good amount of quality crosses as well.
Still a young lad though.

Yeah like all those videos of that belgian kid we're after too....oh wait, there isn't any, despite him being named the best young player in the world at some tournament a few months ago.

Silly reasoning.
