Mancini's contract...

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed he wants to stay at the club for "three or four" more years.

The Italian, whose existing contract runs until 2013, led the club to FA Cup success last season, their first major trophy in 35 years.

And with his side currently top of the Premier League, Mancini said: "I would like to stay - I think Manchester City is one of the world's best clubs."

What do people think about this?

Are we past the days of long-term managers who are happy to commit their careers to helping a club succeed? It doesnt take a genius to figure out that old baconface down the road has been a key factor in their success... and when we eventually get to have that party we sing about... i think they could struggle with their replacement.

Maybe it's just part of the game now, but i actually wouldnt mind a manager that stayed for years - as long as he was successful.

Im guessing by 3 or 4 years time we'll be able to draft in pretty much anyone we want as gaffer and with the resources we have it SHOULD still bring us success. But; i'd be happier if Bobbymanc wouldnt talk about the end of his time at City before he's even had a go at winning the league.

Are we going to be another Chelsea with a new manager every few seasons? Or will we find that long, long term solution? Do we even want the long termer?

You can't bring in a new manager every season and still expect to win things. That's why chelsea are a write off for the title but if they keep villa boss they might be able to challenge us next year.

We need to keep mancini as long as we can. Let everyone else shoot themselves in the foot while we're sprinting ahead.

And anyone in football who talks for longer than 3-4 years is a fucking moron living in a fairytale world where all their players, manager, coaches, owner and fans are all born within sight of the ground.

I agree that it’s silly to look forward so far ahead in today’s game – so why is he sticking a time on how long he wants to be here?

One year at a time, but id like to think that if we do get the success we're actually capable of under Mancini that we could carry it on for as long as we can, rather than as long as he can be arsed.

Get a fucking grip.

How you can take what he said as a negative is beyond me. Have you watched the full press conference and established the context in which he said what he did and have you considered the line of questioning that prompted this?

A reporter was suggesting that Bobby was here to prove he could win the prem and then he'd be off. This was Bobby's way of saying that he is in no rush to go anywhere. It was plainly obvious.

Soz.

Video player at work is not working so not been able to watch it. I just thought it weird that he'd given himself a time limit rather than saying 'many more years'.

As slim mentioned - he's got to actually get through the next three years. Sincerely hope he does.

I'd give him a 2 year extension to add to the 2 years he has left. I think he's earned it.

Bob's '3 or 4 years' could possibly mean he will be interested in signing another a 3 or 4 year deal, not that he's decided he wants to go in 3 or 4 years. He also said that he would like to stay for 'many years'. Imo if Bob is still here 3 years from now, it will mean he's been pretty successful & is pretty settled. City will have moved up another level & he will be earning a fortune & sure, he'll get offers from everywhere but it would take something else to happen, to make him want to leave.

The next challenge here will be to take City from being a top side in the UK to a world giant. Would the bloke in charge at that point want to go somewhere else & leave someone like Mourinho to reap the benefits of 5 years work ? When you go into management, surely your No 1 dream would be to take a club who's been trophyless for years & turn it into something like Real Madrid & Barca; be the geezer who is spoken of 100 years later & gets his statue outside the main entrance ?

My big worry was that Bob would do his bit, then bugger off; that he'd only come here for a short contract & wasn't planning on staying. If he's still here in 3 years imo he'll be hooked (& probably drink a lot more).

Spot on this. I really hope it goes as you say and he becomes part of the furniture. There's a lot of club hoppers nowadays, a lot of the time through no choice of their own but even the top top managers seem to be on the move a lot. A quick three years and a few titles in Italy, then a few in Spain etc. Im not sure if this has always been the case though???

Also, im sure i heard Pep Guardiola saying something about wanting to move on in the near future. Can anyone else back this up?

He has definitely said that "at some stage" he would like to manage in England.

Spot on Ted.
If Bob is successful here the only thing which MIGHT drag him away is the Italian national team job - and it's my opinion that he'd have to be insane to take it ........ but still .....
