Having Seen The Sending Off Again

I'm not convinced the challenge was even worthy of a yellow card let alone a dismissal.

What Vinnie did was clumsy and I can understand why the penalty was given (although I have seen similar challenges go unpunished) but it certainly should not have resulted in a red card.

I disagree..it was a definite penno and sending off

I'm more pissed at Hart who yet again parried it into the danger zone which is becoming worrying and cost us Big Vin and could of cost us the game

Not a dirty/dangerous foul, but denies a clear goal scoring opportunity. If it was a penalty a red card was inevitable. Shocking refereeing performance today, but I would not complain about that one.

The ref was fucking awful yesterday but for the pen I think Vinny did deny a goal scoring opportunity and therefore had to go.

This. That was probably the one decision he got right last night.

It was a illegal challenge to prevent the player to get to the goal , and because V was last man near to the goal it´s red, so is the rule

It was the old Steve Bruce, 'fall over into the back of the player & make it look like an accident' trick. Difference is; Steve Bruce used to get away with it.

the penalty and sending off are clearly stated in the rules - can't have a pop at the ref at that particular decision - the rest of it however - shower of shite

Nice to see the commentary on MOTD on the wonderful refereeing (not)
It may be my last year as a season ticket holder as it just doesn't seem the same with so few English and local players (but I said that last year)

The sending off and pen were just about the only things he got right!

Can't argue with the penalty or the resulting red card.

Definite red card. Kompany knew exactly what he was doing. He needs to cut this out his game now. He made a similar challenge on Wellbeck last week.

Bacon said last week that why not let the man through rather than put your team down to ten men he could have a point. The player who is through could miss or the keeper could save the shot. Also if you look how close Joe is when Doyle goes down Joe could have got to the ball before Doyle imo.

Totally agree. I thought the ref got this one about right.

I think the rule is wrong anyway.

They weren't denied a clearcut goalscoring opportunity, how much clearcut can you get than a penalty?

For professional fouls outside the area, fair enough but the way this law has been twisted and deformed, giving away a penalty these days also runs the risk of a red card. Twice the punishment, half the calories.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with you Slim - I probably need a full night's kip to work that one out ;-)

However, it is true that in the modern game there seems to be (at times) no such thing as a foul, only a cardable offence. Gets right on my tits when a player makes a truly genuine attempt to win the ball but mistimes his challenge by the smallest of fractions - out comes the yellow card when, let's face it, the game today is so fast that the slightest touch will send a sprinting player sprawling.

I remember saying to a friend, during the 1990 world cup finals, that "within 30 years, football will be be a virtual non-contact sport". I'm not going to be far off am I ?
