Adam Johnson's Goals

Postby Alioune DVToure » Sun Oct 30, 2011 3:08 pm

Is it just me or are all his goals vital ones? Off the top of my head, I can think of the last-ditch equaliser at Sunderland, the last-minute winner at home to Newcastle, the equaliser against Juve, the equaliser at Wolves and the opener at Blackburn. And then yesterday he scores to make us comfortable when we were in a precarious position. He seems mega reliable when we need to get deep and get a goal when we're struggling to even create a chance.

I've got a feeling he'll be sold within the next twelve months. I hope he isn't.

AJ scores some umbelievable classy goals that i really love.
as good as a top striker.
in fact i think there is a misunderstanding.
AJ is not a winger , he is a striker.
he has got the clinical finishing and the dribbling of a striker and not the work ethic of a winger.
unfortunally as a striker he is not good enough for a world top team like City is becoming.

if Mancini thinks he can improve into a world class player then I don't think he'll sell him as he has a lot of potential

No one doubts his ability but since we signed him he's not really improved that much imo. He's around the same level, infact some could argue he looked better a couple of seasons ago. He has the potential to be a real class player but he seems to drift in and out of games. Has anyone else noticed that he doesn't dribble half as much as he used to and that's his strongest aspect.

I was screaming at him to hold on to the ball yesterday, and play a pass to the man over. About a second later the ball was nestled in the back of the net.

For me I see this year as make or break for Adam. Up to now for me he has been a bit of a let down .Last year I think SWP played to a similar standard to him.If he carries on the way he has began this year though he will be living upto the hype that surrounds him.For me he needs to do a bit more than score a few spectacular goals a few times a season.

His finishing and stamina are better now than when he first joined us, he needs to work on the rest though.

Quality player, doesn't get himself in the game enough in every game .I think there is a lot of criticism about his defending and tracking back but thats not why he's on the pitch.I hope he learns alot from silva and he keeps banging the goals in.

His dribbling though seems worse. Or he's stopped doing it. His mazy runs in the box were so dangerous and always have a chance of winning a penalty. He seems to have lost confidence in that department.

he chooses his dribbles more carefully and doesn't run down as many blind alleys now. The same as balotelli stopped his run to wait for support, Johnson has stopped trying to be a 1 man attack and is working for the team now. Everyone loves to see a nice mazy dribble, but in the end it's the team result that is more important and AJ is having that drilled into him now.

But he's more dangerous when he goes on those dribbles. Quite often they get goals, penalties, corners free kicks. It's his best part of his game.

I'll let you go and do research on how many of his "mazy dribbles" led to goals/peno's. And then look at his recent goal scoring record, where he has trimmed a bit of, what may have been unnecessary, dribbling from his game.

You may say it's a more subdued performance ... but others may say it's a bit more mature. I love swp, but in my opinion, he never really made that transition. It doesn't last forever and you have to develop a new side to your game if you are going to progress. That doesn't mean you can't reach down into your locker and pull it out later ... when it is REALLY needed. But it's just not the correct option in all cases, and the sooner Johnson learns, the more time he'll have to concentrate on improving other aspects and becoming and amazing player.

Mancini hammering down on him works. Last season, some of AJ's goal celebrations looked like shear arrogance, the kind of "look at me" celebration. Now he's picking up important goals, has made a few stunning passes and his game seems to pick up. Too bad he doesn't keep this spell for the entire game and goes lost. The last two games we saw how brilliant he can be. If he can keep up that level throughout the whole game, that would be fantastic.

I think Johnson should model his game about Tranaldo circa end of 2009 season with Rags. Not so much dribble (only when he had to and in some one on one opposition or very near to the box), positional/tactical awarness (being in the right place at the right moment and doing the right runs), and scoring skills.

You can agree or disagree but I don't see AJ as a world class dribbler à la Robben, being capable of taking over 2 good european level defenders on two steps just by his own skills. He's a good dribbler but not a world class one, and I don't think it's what he'll be about in the future.

Now I do think his left foot is amazing, he can be a great goal scorer, passer and can work very well for the team. You don't have to be a fond of mazy runs to be a successful winger.

Johnson is a very good dribbler. especially in congested areas, he has extremely quick feet and once he gets into the box it could well lead to a chance. He does need to improve other aspects of his game but he should play to his strengths aswell. I remember one of his best performances against Bolton on his debut. He was brilliant that night because time and time again he ran at their fullback and won a penalty aswell.

Adam Johnson, everybody!

Johnson has all the potential in the world, i hope he decides to learn what he can from Mancini ... he could be absolutely lethal.

I've got him playing very well in my second season as city in Fm12 ... scored 5 in his last 4, including a double to win the community shield v. spurs. cracking player. Inside Forward - Attack duties (left wing)
